Each UC-approved course is worth 1 unit (full year) as indicated below. Students may miss no more than one class to receive credit.

COURSE FEES VARY

A $40 non-refundable fee is charged for summer registration. There are two payment options for for-credit course registration:
  1. Pay in two installments: A $250 deposit is due upon registration and you will receive a subsequent bill for the remaining balance.
  2. Pay in full: Total amount due upon registration.
Please note that students receiving financial aid will receive a percentage off of summer for-credit classes.

Pre-registration for Summer at Mayfield is now open. ONLINE COURSE REGISTRATION OPENS SATURDAY, MARCH 16 AT 9:00 AM.

  • Advanced Fitness

    Open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors.
    Prerequisite: 9th-grade Fitness

    This course is about enjoying life and pursuing a healthy lifestyle. This course will include a rotation through the following areas: aerobics/cardio activities, yoga/pilates, recreational activities, and fitness. It will include lecture, discussion, and activity sessions. Students will be empowered to make wise choices, meet challenges, and develop positive behaviors in fitness, wellness, and movement activity for a lifetime.

    Advanced Fitness will not be offered in Summer 2025.

  • Biology

    Open to rising juniors.
    Prerequisites: Conceptual Physics and Chemistry

    $1,350 + $50 Lab Fee + $60 Book Fee

    A general introduction to the biological sciences, this course discusses cellular biochemistry, genetics, evolution, mammalian physiology and classification. Biology is taught using a combination of multimedia lessons, instructional videos, and student-centered activities. Instructional time will include hands-on laboratory work with an emphasis on inquiry-based investigations. Applications of technology and data analysis are included, as well as the consideration of human impact on biological systems.

  • Chemistry

    Open to rising sophomores.
    Prerequisite: Conceptual Physics

    Chemistry is the study of the structure and composition of matter that makes up our environment and the changes it undergoes. Topics include scientific measurement, atomic theory, organization of the periodic table, chemical bonding and reactions, the mole and stoichiometry, solutions, gas laws, and acids/bases. The course is taught using multiple methods including in-class discussion and lectures, instructional videos, simulations, and student-centered activities. The laboratory is an integral part of the course which provides students with a hands-on experience of concepts discussed in class and includes inquiry-based experiments. Students learn to analyze data and construct evidence-based conclusions.

  • Geometry

    Open to rising sophomores. Mayfield Senior School Math Department permission required.
    Prerequisite: 9th-grade Algebra I

    This is a course in Euclidean Geometry with an emphasis on developing logical reasoning skills. Topics will include proofs, coordinate geometry, congruency, similarity, polygons, circles, parallel lines, areas, volumes, and an introduction to right triangle trigonometry. Some review of Algebra I concepts will be integrated into this course.

    A TI-84 Plus calculator is required. A textbook is required. (Glencoe Geometry, 2018 edition. Link to digital storefront.)

  • Psychology

    Open to rising juniors and seniors.
    Prerequisites: World History I and World History II

    July 8 - July 26, 2024
    8:45 AM - 12:30 PM, Monday - Friday (in person)
    $675 + $30 Reader Fee

    This is a general overview course that looks into the fundamental topics of Psychology. In other words, the course examines “why we do what we do” by focusing on the scientific study of both the behavioral and mental processes of human beings. Specific topics include research methodology, psychobiology, development, learning/classical conditioning, personality, motivation, psychological disorder and psychological approaches to therapy. Successful completion of this course will be determined by how well students demonstrate an understanding of the vocabulary and concepts of psychology and the research upon which the knowledge of human thought and behavior is based.

    Psychology will not be offered during the 2024-2025 academic year or summer 2025. Priority enrollment is given to rising seniors.

  • U.S. Women's History

    Open to rising juniors and seniors.
    Prerequisites: World History I and World History II

    June 17-July 5, 2024

    Students will explore the lives of women from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds as they examine the impact women have had on the history and development of the United States from 1890 to the present. Study will be based on readings from primary and secondary sources.

    U.S. Women's History will not be offered in the 2024-2025 academic year. Priority enrollment is given to rising seniors.
