Welcome to a summer of discovery, laughter, and friendship at Mayfield's Cubs Camps for 6th to 8th grade girls! From creative writing and journalism to music, theater, and sports, we've designed a vibrant array of experiences for middle schoolers to explore and enjoy. Each camp costs approximately $400.

Choose between the following two-week sessions:
  • Session 1: June 17 - 28, 2024 (Juneteenth holiday observed)
  • Session 2: July 1 - 12, 2024 (American Independence Day observed)

  • Creative Writing Camp

    Session 1: June 17-28, 8:30-10:30 AM
    Session 2: July 1-12, 8:30-10:30 AM
    Open to student writers of all levels and interests. This workshop focuses on informal and expressive writing to strengthen skills of language and thinking in a non-competitive environment. Students share writing with classmates for feedback and encouragement and develop polished pieces, ranging from personal memoir, short stories, poems, mixed media zines, brief dramatic works, and creative non-fiction.

    Students will compile a portfolio of their best work at session end.
  • Mixed Media Arts Camp

    Session 1: June 17-28, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Session 2: July 1-12, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Explore the world of mixed media arts by creating a variety of hands-on projects relating to craft, art, and design. This exciting multimedia course will give students the opportunity to create two- and three-dimensional artwork with media ranging from painting, collage, printmaking, photography, and papier-mâché. In addition to exploring a variety of media, this course will give students the opportunity to work in a studio art environment while expanding their own individual creativity. 
  • Podcasters Workshop

    Session 2: July 1-12, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Mayfield’s teacher of award-winning podcasters will share production techniques to create your very own podcasts. You’ll learn: how to develop your narrative instincts, how to record and edit sound, Creating a podcast logo brand, how to prepare for an interview to get the best answers, and the elements of a good story. 

    By the end of this session students will have a recording of their very own podcast.
  • Reporters Workshop

    Session 1: June 17-28, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Modern journalism taught by Mayfield’s teacher of award-winning journalists. Students will learn all about basic reporting and tools of the trade including writing and copy editing, researching and interviewing, photojournalism, video newsgathering, creating infographics, and design and print layout. 

    By the end of this session students will have multiple stories published in their own newspaper.
  • Sports Camp

    Session 2: July 1-12, 8:30-10:30 AM
    Work with Mayfield coaches and student athletes to develop skills in badminton, basketball, tennis, softball, swimming, volleyball and more!
  • Theatre Camp

    Session 1: June 17-28, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Session 2: July 1-12, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Explore the craft of acting! This camp emphasizes physical, vocal and creative training, and is designed to expand students' performance skills. Subjects will include improvisation, personal expression and dramatic exploration. Students will learn about character creation, focus on stage, and create an ensemble through teamwork. This is the perfect summer opportunity to blend creativity, building self-confidence/relationships, and each student's passion for the arts. 

    No previous skills/background required.
  • Vocal Camp

    Session 1: June 17-28, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Session 2: July 1-12, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Join the summer vocal ensemble! This class is perfect for anyone who loves to sing and wants to learn more about solo repertoire, both classical and musical theater, or simply to have fun learning how to sing your very best!
  • Volleyball Camp

    Session 1: June 17-28, 8:30-10:30 AM & 10:30 AM-12:30 PM
    Work with Mayfield coaches and student athletes to develop skills and increase a player’s passion for the game. This camp is open to students of all skill levels.
