Bellefontaine Society

Give yourself and your family the gift of a world with strong women leaders

Through the support of major patrons over the last 90 years, Mayfield Senior School remains dedicated to helping girls nurture the unique and divine spark that resides in each of them.

Immersed in the pedagogy of Cornelia Connelly, Mayfield graduates develop the skills to lead—in their families, their careers, and in service to society. We aspire to be a light in the world. How might we secure the Mayfield experience for future generations? I invite you to join The Bellefontaine Society—an alliance of Mayfield alums, their families and special friends who believe legacy giving is vital to supporting the school's purpose: to empower young women to be transformative agents in the world.

When you leave a philanthropic gift in your will, trust, or by beneficiary designation, you join the society and an inspired lineage of benefactors who have ensured the evolution and vitality of a Catholic, Holy Child education since the first Mayfield School opened in England in 1872.

With thoughtful planning, you can fulfill your personal goals, increase your family's financial security and receive significant tax benefits. There are many ways to give, and most legacy giving opportunities enable you to:

  • Retain control of your assets during your lifetime
  • Change your beneficiaries at any time
  • Provide for loved ones and Mayfield Senior School
  • Make your gift in honor or memory of someone special
  • Participate in the historic Strub Hall: Century 2 campaign with naming opportunities for gifts of $50,000 or more
  • Leave a lasting impact with a gift of any size
Together we can ensure society has the superbly educated women leaders it needs to move the world forward. I'd love to hear about a gift you have planned or to discuss legacy giving options. Please reach out.

Ways to Give

List of 3 items.

  • Charitable IRA Rollover Gift

If you're age 70½ and older, you can make direct charitable contributions from your IRA (Individual Retirement Account) to Mayfield Senior School without any tax consequences. As you may be aware, all IRA withdrawals are fully taxable. However, a new law makes it possible to direct up to $100,000 a year to Mayfield Senior School or other nonprofit organizations with no income taxes charged. These charitable IRA Rollover gifts also fulfill your annual IRA required minimum distribution and allow non-itemizers to receive tax benefits from gifts to Mayfield.

How to use the Charitable IRA Rollover to make an immediate impact for Mayfield Senior School:
    • You must be age 70½ or older
    • The funds must go directly from your IRA account to Mayfield Senior School
    • You cannot exceed $100,000 in rollover gifts a year
    • Rollover gifts must be unrestricted and cannot provide incidental benefits to the donor.
For details, contact Angela Howell ’76 or reach out to your IRA plan administrator.
  • Will or Trust

Giving through your will or revocable living trust is a wonderful way to ensure that your support of Mayfield Senior School helps our students for generations to come.

You may designate a specific dollar amount or percentage of your residual estate to Mayfield Senior School, while leaving other assets to your family and friends. There is no minimum requirement.

How to give by will or trust:
Provide your attorney with this simple language:
“I give (the residue of my estate) OR (___% of the residue of my estate) OR (the sum of ____ dollars) to Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus for its general purposes.”

    Include this information:
Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus
    500 Bellefontaine Street
    Pasadena, CA 91105
    Federal Tax ID Number: 95-1816029
  • Beneficiary Designation

Certificates of Deposit, Bank & Brokerage Accounts, Life Insurance
Another simple way to have a lasting impact is to name Mayfield Senior School as a beneficiary of a certificate of deposit, bank or brokerage account or life insurance policy.

    Donor-Advised Funds
Consider naming Mayfield Senior School as a beneficiary of any contributions remaining in your donor-advised fund. Or, designate Mayfield Senior School to receive a portion of the remaining account value, leaving the balance for your family or friends to continue your legacy of philanthropy.

    Retirement Accounts and IRAs
Naming Mayfield Senior School as the beneficiary of a retirement plan account or IRA is a smart way to give and save your family taxes. Withdrawals from retirement accounts are usually fully taxable, no matter who receives the funds-unless you designate a tax-exempt entity like Mayfield Senior School as a beneficiary. Because Mayfield Senior School is tax-exempt, 100% of your retirement account or IRA gift will go toward creating your legacy.

How to give by beneficiary designation:
    • Contact your plan or IRA administrator, bank or insurance company and request a beneficiary form.
    • Write "Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, tax ID number 95-1816029" as sole or partial beneficiary of your account.
    • Sign and return the beneficiary form to your plan administrator and keep a copy for your files.
    • Share a copy with Angela Howell ’76, Associate Head of School for Strategic Initiatives.
