Our Holy Child Education

Our Catholic, Holy Child philosophy calls us to rigorously educate each student with values-based learning that promotes independent thinking and strong written, verbal and analytical skills that are so needed in today’s technology-driven world.   • Q: When can I apply to Mayfield Senior School?

    Applications for students entering 9th grade in the 2023-24 school year will be available in October 2022. Please submit an inquiry form to be notified when applications open. (Transfer students can inquiry today, space is available.)
  • Q: Who is the typical Mayfield Senior School student?

    Mayfield students come to us from 75 different Catholic, independent, and public schools and represent many different racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students hail from all over Los Angeles County, but most come from the Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley area. Our current student body represents almost 30 local communities, including Pasadena, Altadena, Glendale, Arcadia, San Marino, Monrovia, San Gabriel, South Pasadena, La Canada, Los Angeles, Sierra Madre, Alhambra, Downey, Burbank, Montebello, Toluca Lake, La Crescenta, Temple City, Tujunga, Bell, Bradbury, El Monte, Huntington Park, Monterey Park, Whittier, Rosemead, Studio City, Valley Center, Maywood, and North Hollywood. 

    Most incoming freshmen know only a few other students before they enroll, so the atmosphere on campus is very friendly. Students are eager to get to know each other!
  • Q: What do you look for when admitting students?

    Mayfield Senior School admits the best-qualified applicants. We seek students who possess character, scholarship, curiosity and love of learning. In addition, Mayfield expects to enroll students who value integrity, loyalty and service. In evaluating applicants, the Admissions Committee creates a context for each student, and tries to assess the student’s ability and eagerness to benefit from and contribute to Mayfield. The following are criteria that the Admissions Committee considers when making its decisions:

    • Application, including student essay
    • Interview
    • Transcript, emphasis placed on 7th and 8th grades
    • Recommendations (academic)
  • Q: Where do Mayfield Senior School graduates attend college?

    100% of our students are accepted to college. Our graduates enroll at small liberal arts colleges, large research universities, and public and private institutions in the West, South, Midwest and on the East Coast. Our graduates are currently attending more than 110 colleges and universities across the country and around the world. Read more about our College Counseling program.
  • Q: What are the advantages of attending an all-girls school?

    Studies have shown that students at single-sex high schools outperform their peers in a co-ed environment in all areas: academics, leadership, community participation, and personal development. Learn more about the benefits of attending an all-girls school.
  • Q: Is financial or merit aid available?

    Yes. Approximately 37% of the student body receives tuition assistance. Mayfield Senior School offers both need-based and merit-based financial aid.
  • Q: Will applying for financial aid affect my chances for admission?

    No. It is important to note that applying for financial aid has no bearing upon the Admission Committee's decision and assessment of an applicant's potential as a Mayfield student. Decisions regarding financial aid are made after admission is determined.
  • Q: When can I visit the Mayfield campus?

    Campus tours for 8th-grade students and parents begin in October 2022, and we also host our annual Open House for the entire family on Sunday, Dec. 4!
