Welcome to Mayfield!

Discover Mayfield! Where your gifts come alive!

Welcome! So glad you found us.

You made it! We welcome you to our beautiful school and are cheering for you during your important high school selection journey. Please know we are here to help you every step of the way. When Head of School Kate Morin introduces girls and their families to Mayfield, her message is clear and simple. “Mayfield is a place of joy and love,” she says.

In this spirit, the most important thing for you to know is that the person you are today is your gift to Mayfield. And who you will become at Mayfield will be your gift to the world. So take a breath, smile at your application and tell us about yourself because YOU are important to us.

Our biggest tip for applying to Mayfield this year? Same as usual—don’t stress!

Like many schools, we’re reviewing and recalibrating our admissions process for the 2021-22 school year. The basic deadlines won’t change, but other elements might look a little different, like our campus visits, interviews, and entrance exam requirements. As always, we’re here to help, so please don’t hesitate to reach out via email or phone if you have any questions!

Here’s what won’t change:

  • Register for your online account (anytime!)
This is the first step to submit your online application.
  • Submit your online application by Jan. 22, 2021
Once you have created an account, we will send you a username and password to access the online application, which opens in mid-October. Our online checklist will walk you through the process step-by-step.
  • Submit your transcripts and references by Jan. 29, 2021
We know your transcripts might look different this year, and we’re already planning to take into account different learning environments as we evaluate applications.
  • Apply for financial aid by Jan. 29, 2021
We’re aware that many families have been financially impacted by COVID-19. (Please note that you MUST apply for financial aid by the Jan. 29 deadline.)
  • Interviews begin in Jan. 2021
We still want to meet you and your family, whether that’s in person or on a Zoom call! We’re committed to following all public health guidelines, but we’ll make it work.

Here’s what will change—stay tuned:

  • No ISEE Testing
After careful thought and discussion, we have adopted a no test policy for students applying for the 2021-22 school year.
  • Character Skills Snapshot
This year, students will take the Enrollment Management Association's Character Skills Snapshot. This online tool helps us better understand students’ preferences toward seven character skills: intellectual engagement, teamwork, initiative, resilience, self control, open-mindedness, and social awareness.
  • Virtual Campus Visits
We’re working on setting up virtual tours beginning in mid-October.
  • Open House
We’re still planning on hosting our annual Open House in early December, but this may change depending on public health guidelines.

Applications for students entering 9th grade in the 2021-22 school year will be available in October 2020. Please submit an inquiry form to be notified when applications open. (Transfer students entering in 10th and 11th grade can apply online beginning March 2021 if space is available.)
  • Q: Who is the typical Mayfield Senior School student?

Mayfield students come to us from 65 different Catholic, independent, and public schools and represent many different racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students hail from all over Los Angeles County, but most come from the Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley area. Our current student body represents almost 30 local communities, including Pasadena, Altadena, Glendale, Arcadia, San Marino, Monrovia, San Gabriel, South Pasadena, La Canada, Los Angeles, Sierra Madre, Alhambra, Downey, Burbank, Montebello, Toluca Lake, La Crescenta, Temple City, Tujunga, Bell, Bradbury, El Monte, Huntington Park, Monterey Park, Whittier, Rosemead, Studio City, Valley Center, Maywood, and North Hollywood.

Most incoming freshmen know only a few other students before they enroll, so the atmosphere on campus is very friendly. Students are eager to get to know each other!
  • Q: What do you look for when admitting students?

Mayfield Senior School admits the best-qualified applicants. We seek students who possess character, scholarship, curiosity and love of learning. In addition, Mayfield expects to enroll students who value integrity, loyalty and service. In evaluating applicants, the Admissions Committee creates a context for each student, and tries to assess the student’s ability and eagerness to benefit from and contribute to Mayfield. The following are criteria that the Admissions Committee considers when making its decisions:

    • Application, including student essay
    • Interview
    • Admissions testing (ISEE testing temporarily suspended for 2021-22 applicants)
    • Transcript, emphasis placed on 7th and 8th grades
    • Recommendations (academic and personal)
  • Q: Where do Mayfield Senior School graduates attend college?

100% of our students are accepted to college. Our graduates enroll at small liberal arts colleges, large research universities, and public and private institutions in the West, South, Midwest and on the East Coast. Graduates of the Classes of 2016–2019 are currently attending 116 colleges and universities across the country and around the world. See the Class of 2020 Matriculation List.
  • Q: What are the advantages of attending an all-girls school?

Studies have shown that students at single-sex high schools outperform their peers in a co-ed environment in all areas: academics, leadership, community participation, and personal development. Learn more about the benefits of attending an all-girls school.
  • Q: Is financial or merit aid available?

Yes. Approximately 37% of the student body receives tuition assistance. Mayfield Senior School offers both need-based and merit-based financial aid.
  • Q: Will applying for financial aid affect my chances for admission?

No. It is important to note that applying for financial aid has no bearing upon the Admission Committee's decision and assessment of an applicant's potential as a Mayfield student. Decisions regarding financial aid are made after admission is determined.
