Cubs teams win a remarkable three Prep League championships

Back in June, this remarkable week seemed so far away. No sooner had the school year ended than our fall sport athletes began grueling workouts, sometimes twice a day. Summer training seemed to drag on and on. But this week the hard work paid off big time. Three Cub teams won Prep League Championships! We are the victors in golf, varsity volleyball and JV volleyball.
Our golf team continued their domination with their fifth consecutive title, including a thrilling Senior Night victory over Westridge on Tuesday. Chloe Kessel ’19 concluded her home golf career with yet another terrific performance. The golfer of the day belonged to Daniela Bachman ’20, who shot her lowest career score in the biggest match of the year.

About 30 minutes and ten miles away, the varsity volleyball team ended a four-year drought by winning Mayfield’s 23rd Prep League Championship in the sport in school history, and our first title since 2014. Led by an amazing group of eight seniors, the team heads into next week's CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs as the league champion for their first time in their careers. Our JV volleyball team also dominated the Prep League finishing a perfect 12-0 after winning its final match at Westridge.

Not to be outdone, many of you have heard what our cross country runners did last weekend in Fresno! For the second consecutive year, the #8-ranked team in the state won its Division 4 race at the Clovis Invitational on the same course that the state championships will be run on next month. Even without our top runner, the Cubs placed four runners in the top 25 and finished ahead of rival Big Bear. The Cubs have two weeks to prepare for the Prep League Finals to defend their 2017 title.

Thursday we honored our three seniors finishing their home careers on the tennis court. Mayfield soundly defeated Flintridge Prep, 16-2 at the Arroyo Racquet Center. Lauren Panajotovic '19 once again won all three of her matches by a 6-0 score. The Cubs have two more matches to prepare for the inaugural Prep League tournament in late October.

As the fall sports come to an end, we honored 18 members of the senior class playing their final regular season home game this past week. The seniors are:
