We are called...

Jesus calls us to be people of forgiveness.
People of faith.
People of justice...
People of compassion.
People free of rancor.

We are called to be peace builders.

These words were at the heart of the gentle message from Fr. Jim Bevacqua, who celebrated our opening school year liturgy, the Mass of the Holy Spirit.

Every year in September we collectively call on the Holy Spirit to guide our students with wisdom as we prepare for both the rigors and joy of the school year ahead. Our Campus Ministry Council members were commissioned during the Mass as they take on leadership roles in furthering spiritual life on campus.

In a poignant moment during the Mass, students read prayers in a diversity of languages that reflect their cultural background, including Lithuanian, Mandarin, French, Korean and Spanish.

Jessica Zovak ’20 prayed in Croatian asking for the wisdom to pursue academic excellence “not just in our minds, but also our hearts in service to others.”

In another petition, Melanie Ahn ’21, prayed in Korean for the “the creation of safe spaces for one another, celebrating each person’s uniqueness and respecting our differences.”

In closing, Head of School Kate Morin told the girls she felt “real sense of peace in the gym” during the Mass, despite the Friday afternoon excitement during the first weeks of school.

“I just pray for all of you to hold that peace in your heart all year,” she said.
