Oh Holy Child! Christmas is our holiday at Mayfield

There is a magic that takes hold of Mayfield a week before Christmas, a time when our campus community focuses on faith-filled events and experiences what the “joy of the season” really means.
We hear it in the music room, as our musicians and vocalists practice for a full slate of packed Christmas concerts. We see it in Strub Hall with our dazzling decorations, garland and giant chapel crèche. We feel it every morning as students rush to see what their secret “Kris Kind” has left under our famous Christmas tree.

“As a Holy Child school this our holiday, our time to celebrate and feel the love of the season,” said Head of School Kate Morin. “These days and traditions honor our Holy Child identity in such beautiful ways.”

Students loaded up a van full of Christmas gift and delivered them to LAMP, a sponsored ministry of Holy Child sisters. The Deck the Halls boutique and luncheon drew Mayfield moms and alums for lovely afternoon. Students celebrated a Mass on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and held an Advent prayer service.

Our Instrumental and Vocal conservatories played and sang their hearts out at two packed Christmas concerts. Our long-held tradition, Carol Night, once again drew hundreds to campus for music, caroling and silver trays of sugar cookies. Friday afternoon before break is our version of Christmas morning, as our students reveal the identity of their “Kris Kind.”

These bountiful Christmas expressions are at the heart of Mayfield’s Catholic Holy Child identity, Mrs. Morin said.

“I hope we all can take a deep breath, and just take in all the joy around us for a moment,” she told those gathered at our Christmas concert last Sunday, setting the tone for the week ahead. “Let’s just remind ourselves that we are always in the presence of a good and gracious and loving God.”

Merry Christmas with love from Mayfield!
