A thrilling ride for the Softball team and Track & Field making a run to the California State Championships!

After the end of a memorable softball run through the CIF playoffs yesterday, we have only one sport remaining this school year. With a 4th place finish in the competitive Prep League, the softball team knew it had clinched a playoff spot, but figured the path in the playoffs would be a difficult one. They were forced to play a wildcard game out in Oro Grande, just to get to the 1st round of the playoffs. After winning that game, the team returned to Riverside two days later for a 1st round game with Notre Dame, which the team won handily. Things got much more serious in the 2nd round when the team traveled to Cerritos to take on #4 ranked Valley Christian. In the “game of the year” for the Cubs, Mayfield made up an early 2-0 deficit with five runs in the fifth inning and held on for a thrilling 6-4 upset victory over the Defenders! Our road warriors finally earned a home game for yesterday's CIF Quarterfinal game, of course, it was against highly ranked #5 Artesia. After the Cubs led 2-1 going into the fifth inning, the visiting Pioneers scraped together six runs over the next two innings and finally defeated Mayfield, 7-3, ending the Cubs season. After logging hundreds of miles and three great wins, the Cubs playoff run ended, but it was a thrilling two-week ride for the team and their fans.

In last weekend's CIF Track & Field Prelims in Carpinteria, the Cubs showed why they are one of the best teams in the San Gabriel Valley. Mayfield's athletes were best in the field events as Sade Falese '23 (Long Jump), Liz Goethals '23 (Discuss), Sissy Page '25 (High Jump), and Leah Whitfield '26 (Triple Jump) all qualified in the top-9 for tomorrow's CIF Finals at Moorpark HS. The Cubs will be well represented in their quest for a top-10 finish at the Division 4 meet.

With just Track & Field competing for Mayfield, the athletic season is coming to an end, but four great field athletes will hope to continue that Cubs magic and make a run to the California State Championships! GO CUBS!
