Exciting travel, wild weather and fierce competition

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! I am writing from Concord, CA, as our Varsity swim team is taking part in the 33rd annual De La Salle Invitational this weekend. The Cubs will take on the best teams in northern California in a great tuneup for the most important meets of the year in the coming weeks.

The weather has continued to wreak havoc on the Cubs calendar. Our Prep League cluster meet for the Track & Field team was cancelled on Tuesday. A select group of runners have qualified for this weekend's Arcadia Distance Challenge and will run on the famous Arcadia High School track tomorrow. The Cubs continue to have some of the best marks in the area and all of CIF. Tomorrow should be a great test against some elite competition.
The Softball team is one of the hottest teams in the area and took a major step towards their first Prep League title in five years this week. The Cubs have won five games in a row, capped off by a 12-5 win over Flintridge Prep on Monday. The Cubs and Wolves entered the game tied for 1st with Providence in the standings. However, after Mayfield's big win, today's game with Providence will thrust one team into the driver's seat for the 2023 league title. The Cubs will have to be at their best, after the Pioneers took two close games from Mayfield last season.

Badminton continues to show amazing improvement. In a scrimmage yesterday against one of the top teams in CIF each year, San Marino, Mayfield fell 11-10. The Cubs look like they are on their way to winning their first match in nearly a decade today as they travel to Webb. Stay tuned—it looks like history could be in the making!

After this weekend's meet in northern California, the Swim team has a very busy week next week with three meets in three days against Chadwick, FSHA and Webb. All three meets have increased importance as the season is now reaching the halfway point.

Between today's all-important Softball game, the big Track meet at Arcadia, and Badminton and swimming's busy schedule, there are so many opportunities for Cubs fans to get out and support our athletes. Don't forget to check the athletics calendar, put on your red, and lose your voice cheering our girls on to victory! GO CUBS!
