Head's Weekly Message — Oct. 1, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

It has been so lovely to be able to spend time with our Mayfield parents on campus again.   Personally, I deeply missed experiencing our parent community’s in-person warmth and friendship last year. I loved the opportunity to say the Rosary with parents in our beautiful Connelly Chapel yesterday morning, and we very much appreciated all those who attended our parent parties and Back to School Night. We are particularly grateful to all those who attended our parent briefings this past week, either at school or remotely. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to hear about our exciting plans and how you can support your daughters and our school. As we said—we could not be the school we are without your amazing generosity.

I am very excited to let you know about a special program specifically for Mayfield parents developed by our Director of Campus Ministry, Teri Gonzales. Our new adult spirituality initiative—Inspire—will meet quarterly starting on Monday, Oct. 11 and is designed to provide parents with the opportunity to learn more about our Holy Child mission while continuing to grow and nurture their own personal and communal faith journeys. Sr. Eileen McDevitt, SHCJ, Director of the Holy Child Network of Schools, will lead our first session which will focus on the incarnational spirituality that is central to the Society’s charism. The Inspire sessions will all be remote this year to make it easy for everyone to participate, and I look forward to seeing many of you via Zoom on Oct. 11 at 5:00 p.m. You can sign up here to receive the Zoom link.

I also look forward to seeing many of you next week on campus for some fun and exciting athletics and arts opportunities. On Thursday, Oct. 7 we welcome everyone to participate in our Booster Club Barbeque. This is an opportunity to celebrate all our fall athletes with free food and some great volleyball matches against Providence High School. The festivities start right after school with the Freshman/Sophomore volleyball match scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Go Cubs!

Then on Friday, Oct. 8, we turn our attention towards our artists as we celebrate their talents at our All Arts Night starting at 6:00 p.m. This is one of my favorite events of the year because we all get the opportunity to sample and experience the amazing depth and breadth of our Mayfield programs. I hope to see many of you there.

Finally, I ask you kindly to be very mindful of our commitment to our neighbors around traffic flow especially on Bellefontaine. We have promised our neighbors that parents will neither drop off nor pick up students on the street—only on campus. We will be reminding our students that they are not to enter school at the start of the day nor leave school after dismissal by the front gate unless they are walking home. We thank you so much for helping us keep the trust of our neighbors.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
