Head's Weekly Message — March 27, 2020

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

This is just a short note to check in and let you know that we are really looking forward to getting back to remote learning on Monday. I’m sure many of you and your families are starting to experience some degree of “cabin fever,” and I’m hoping that getting back into the school routine will help.

As we communicated earlier this week, after reflecting on our first few days of remote learning, we decided that it would be best to revert back to our regular eight-block rotating schedule starting on Monday, March 30. We are hoping that returning to this schedule will feel more normal for everyone and will also serve the needs of our students best. Our goal is to keep everyone engaged and moving forward without being overwhelmed. We have asked your daughters to let us know if they experience difficulties—please also reach out so we can deal with problems quickly as we all adjust to this new situation.

Next week’s schedule also includes a Community meeting as well as advisory. We continue to think about ways that we can all keep connected during this time we must be apart to address our community’s social, emotional, and spiritual needs. We want you to stay connected, too, so we will be holding our regularly scheduled Parents Board meeting remotely on Thursday, April 2 at 8:15 a.m., and you are all cordially invited. We will be using Google Meet—the same platform that your daughters are using—which works best with the Chrome browser. Please click on this link to join us next Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m.

I know we are all being inundated by resources through social media, but I have personally found the video reflections and liturgies posted by my parish—Holy Family in South Pasadena—to be very comforting. This past Wednesday’s reflection by Msgr. Connolly really spoke to me, and I found Clem’s words helpful as Skip and I try to reassure and counsel our adult children on the East Coast. We are grateful that they have all been working from home for the past two weeks and are staying well and relatively sane. At least we are getting a lot more FaceTime opportunities with Maddie, who turns 18 months old today!

Again, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns. I know you join me in holding our entire community in the Light as we pray especially for all the health care professionals who are making such huge sacrifices for us all.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
