Head's Weekly Message — Dec. 13, 2019

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

I hope you are starting to feel the Christmas spirit as much as I am! If you need a little help, just stop by Strub Hall to experience some Mayfield magic. Our home could not look more beautiful! The magnificent trees, the sparkling garlands, our lovely angel above the living room mantel, and especially our gorgeous Nativity scene in the chapel—they all create an amazing Christmas light that fills our hearts.

Although the weather wasn’t perfect, I think everyone felt that beautiful Christmas glow during last Sunday’s Open House, thanks in large part to the support of our Mayfield families. We had a record number of attendees and I heard so many people praising our students for being so poised and informative. Our founder, Cornelia Connelly, wanted her schools to be places filled with love and joy and I really believe our visitors could feel that on Sunday, thanks to our amazing students and parents!

On Monday, Director of Campus Ministry Teri Gonzales and Theology Department Chair Nora Warren shared some of our Mayfield love and joy with Archbishop José Gómez as they presented him with a “spiritual bouquet” to celebrate his recent election as President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. We dedicated our community’s many hours of service—guided by our Holy Child motto of “Actions Not Words”—in his honor. The Archbishop was very touched by this gesture, and he asks for our prayers as he takes on his new and important leadership role.

It was wonderful to see so many Mayfield moms at our annual Christmas luncheon on Wednesday. This year’s “Home for the Holidays” theme was perfectly chosen as we continue to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our beloved Strub Hall. The fellowship, the table settings and the food were perfect, and I especially loved the surprise performance of our Women’s Ensemble seniors, who sang a stunning rendition of “There’s No Place like Home for the Holidays.” Everything was gorgeous!

If you want to hear more amazing music, give yourselves a wonderful gift and come along to our annual Christmas Concert this Sunday afternoon at St. Bede the Venerable Church in La Canada. The music will continue at Carol Night — a cherished Mayfield tradition—on campus this Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7:00pm. I hope to see many of you there!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
