Celebrating our award-winning Cubs!

The 2022-2023 school year saw another athletic calendar filled with thrilling victories for the Cubs! Mayfield once again led the Prep League in Varsity league titles as Track & Field won their unprecedented 8th consecutive title, Swimming & Diving won their 3rd straight title and Tennis & Volleyball each won their 2nd consecutive championship. The Cubs also placed three girls on the All CIF 1st team as Katie Gomez ’23 in Soccer, Annelise Rising ’23 in Volleyball, and Kennedy Taylor ’25 in Softball, all were given the highly prestigious honor. For their stellar efforts, Gomez and Rising were also selected as the Prep League MVPs in their sports. Samantha Frick ’23 won her 3rd consecutive Prep League singles championship in tennis and led the team to an appearance in the 2nd round of the CIF playoffs. Sissy Page ’25 (High Jump) and Morgan Burns ‘25 (Diving) also broke 17-year-old school records in their events.

The Cubs tied with FSHA 5-5 in the Rivalry Series competition with Mayfield winning in Soccer, Swim & Dive, Tennis, Track & Field and Volleyball. For their amazing efforts last fall, the Tennis and Volleyball teams were recently placed in Division I for the Fall of 2023. At the end of the season, a very select group of girls were given special awards: Zoe Chiu ’26—Three Sport Athlete of the Year; Holly Gmelich ’23—Duffy Spirit Award Winner; Katie Gomez ’23—Academic Athlete of the Year; Sade Falese ’23—4 Year Athlete Award; Samantha Frick ‘23—Athlete of the Year.

It’s exciting to report that we are sending five Cubs off to compete in college sports this year: Sade Falese ’23 (Track/Field at Cornell), Holly Gmelich ’23 (Swim at Washington University, St. Louis), Katie Gomez ’23 (Soccer at University of Chicago), Cecilia Kvochak ‘23 (Track/Field at Holy Cross) and Annelise Rising ’23 (Volleyball at University of Colorado). And now we close the book on a terrific year and get ready for even more victories in 2023-2024! GO CUBS!
