There are still chances for you to cheer on the Cubs!

The spring playoff season is in full swing this week as Softball, Swim, and Track & Field are all competing in the CIF postseason. The Softball team won their wildcard game in Oro Grande, 13-5, over Riverside Prep on Tuesday. The Cubs actually trailed the Silver Knights 4-3 in the 6th inning before Mayfield's offense exploded for 10 runs in the 6th inning and the Cubs cruised to an easy victory in the end. After being rained out yesterday, Mayfield will finally play their 1st round game this afternoon against Notre Dame/Riverside at Shamel Park with a first pitch at 3:00 p.m.

The Varsity Swim team competed in the CIF Division 2 Prelims on Wednesday in Riverside. The Cubs qualified for six events in today's CIF Finals, led by Sophia Georgino ’25 and Holly Gmelich ’23, who both qualified in each of their two events. The two girls combined with Kate Georgino '25 and Ella Yoon ’24 to also qualify in two relays. This afternoon the Cubs will look to finish in the top-10 of the D2 meet for the first time since 2007 (and only the 2nd time ever).

After winning their 8th consecutive Prep League title ten days ago, the Track & Field team finally will compete in tomorrow's CIF Prelims up in Carpinteria. The Cubs will have a full team competing in numerous events, led by school record holders Sade Falese ’23 (Long Jump) and Sissy Page ’25 (High Jump).

The Equestrian team closed out their season recently with the final two shows of the school year. Because of numerous weather delays, the shows were forced to be on back-to-back days at the end of April, but a handful of Cubs performed brilliantly all weekend long. Here are the best results Mayfield had over the long weekend:
  • Catherine Brewer ’26: 10th in Novice Hunter Seat Equitation (Show #3)
  • Sasha Madilian '25: 1st in JV Jumper Class, Table IV (Show #3); 4th Overall in the JV Jumper Division (Show #3); 2nd in JV Jumper Class, Table IV (Show #4)
  • Penelope Nakasone ’24: 7th in the JV Jumper Champion Division (Show #30; 15th in JV Jumper Class, Table IV (Show #4)
  • Camille O'Brien ’25: 8th in Varsity Hunter Seat Equitation (Show #3); 5th in Varsity Hunter Seat Equitation (Show #4)
  • Mary Elizabeth Ryan ’26: 8th in Freshman Jumper Class, Table IV (Show #3 & Show #4)
With the Swim team's season ending this afternoon and the track and the Softball team finishing their seasons soon as well, the 2022-2023 sports season is coming to an end, but there is still a chance for you to cheer on the Cubs. Keep an eye on our Twitter and the Mayfield Athletics Calendar for all details and GO CUBS!
