The next few days are packed with exciting Cubs events!

The spring season is coming to an end as each of the five spring sports completes their season. Badminton's regular season came to an end last night with a thrilling evening in the gym. The Cubs honored two Mayfield Cubs and four Loyola Cubs who played their final matches for the team. Not only was it a great night to honor Jenna Kim '23 and Lindsay Snyder '23, but the team delivered a thrilling victory over cross-town rival Pasadena Poly, 11-10. It was the Cubs second victory of the season—matching the most wins in school history! The Cubs will now await to see if the team or any of their individuals will be chosen for the CIF playoffs in May. It was a wonderful way to end the season and send off the seniors victoriously
The Swim & Dive team also had an important few days. On Wednesday, the Cubs two divers, Morgan Burns '25 and Ann Tanaka '26 competed in the Prep League Diving Finals against very stiff competition. Morgan and Ann finished 3rd & 4th respectively and both girls had scores that qualified them for the CIF Finals next week in Riverside. Morgan's score of 461 points broke a 17-year old school record and Ann's score of 362 points now ranks her #7 all-time in Mayfield history. Yesterday the Varsity Swim team took a major step towards winning their 3rd consecutive Prep League title with a terrific performance in the League Prelims meet. The Cubs were led by Kate Georgino '25, qualifying 1st in the 100 Backstroke. And the Medley Relay team—consisting of Kate Georgino, Sophia Georgino '25, Marcella Laguna '23 and Maggie Murphy '24—all qualified 1st for tomorrow's League Finals. The Cubs had a number of additional great swims to set themselves up for a special day tomorrow at Poly in the League Finals.

The Track & Field team also competed this week in the Prep League Prelims, and just like the Swim & Dive team, they have set themselves up to win another Prep League title! The Cubs were led by top qualifiers: Sade Falese '23 (100 & Long Jump), Liz Goethals '23 (Discus), Sissy Page '25/Mimi Vanis '26 (High Jump) and Monika Vargas '25 (300 hurdles). The Finals meet should be a very exciting one on Tuesday as the Cubs look to extend their winning streak for the Prep League title.

The Softball Cubs have clinched a playoff berth already but are still fighting for 2nd place in the league. The Cubs split their two Prep League games this week, defeating Westridge 13-3 on Tuesday, before dropping their game yesterday to Rio Hondo Prep, 12-6. The Cubs travel to Muir today for a non-league game, before finishing their season with two key league games next week—one against Rio Hondo Prep on Monday (their Senior Night game), and then at Chadwick on Wednesday (the regular season finale).

The Equestrian team also will finish their season with their two final shows of the school year this weekend at Hansen Dam on Saturday and Sunday. The weather has wreaked havoc on the calendar so far, but it should be a beautiful weekend for riding in the East Valley

With League Finals for both Swim & Dive plus Track & Field, key Softball games and season-ending Equestrian competitions, the next few days are packed with exciting Cubs events. We hope to see all of you out in red screaming for the Cubs. GO CUBS!
