Aquacubs make a splash

The Mayfield Track & Field team has been the dominant team in the Prep League for nearly a decade, having won every league title since 2015. In the first two league cluster meets, the Cubs fell behind early and could not recover to make up the deficit. However, in the final tuneup before next week's Prep League Prelims, Mayfield asserted itself as the team to beat once again, with a solid team victory with 88.5 points. Westridge appears to be the biggest threat to the Cubs reign, as the Tigers placed second with 77 points. Mayfield had a number of great performances on the day, but were led by 1st place finishers Leah Whitfield ’26 (800m), Nikki Hensley ’24 (100m & 300m hurdles), Sissy Page ’25 (high jump) and Liz Goethals ’23 (discus). With just a few days remaining before the Prelims, the Cubs appear to be peaking at the right time.

The Cubs Softball team is going through a tough stretch in their season, having lost consecutive games to Flintridge Prep and 1st place Providence this week. Mayfield will look to get right later today when they host Chadwick at Brookside Field #2. Mayfield is still in a three-way fight for 2nd place with Flintridge Prep (whom the Cubs split two games with) and Rio Hondo Prep, whom the Cubs will have two games with in the coming weeks.

On the eve of the Prep League Swimming & Diving Finals, Mayfield's final league tuneup came at Rosemead HS on Tuesday. The Cubs were more than up to the task, handily defeating the Panthers. The Cubs swept the Diving event, led by Morgan Burns ’25 and Ann Tanaka ‘26, and never looked back. Both Varsity and JV will look to keep their league championship streaks alive at next week's Finals. The JV team are big favorites while the Varsity team will have a tight battle with Flintridge Prep for the championship.

Badminton had the week off as the prep for their final regular season matchup of the season this Tuesday. It is the first of our spring season Senior Nights, as we honor the members of the Class of 2023 as they represent Mayfield one last time. League titles and playoff berths will be on the line in the final weeks of the season—come cheer on your Cubs to victory! GO CUBS!
