The final few weeks of the spring season will be very exciting!

The Cubs' week has been up and down. Tuesday was one of the best days of the year, with Softball coming from behind in the final inning to defeat Pasadena Poly, 6-5, in a thrilling victory.  The Cubs trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the 7th before scoring four runs to pull out a come- from-behind victory. On the same day, the Swim & Dive teams traveled to Pasadena Poly and came away with huge victories: Varsity won 123-56 and the JV team won 123-17. The highlight of the day, however, was the badminton teams' lopsided win over Fairmont Prep: 18-3! This was the first win for the Cubs (Mayfield and Loyola) in Badminton since the 2017 season. It was a great performance from the young team and an exciting win for everyone!
However, Thursday proved to be a more difficult day for the Cubs. The Softball team went on the road to Flintridge Prep and dropped a 7-5 game to the Wolves. Mayfield threatened to come back in the final inning again, but fell just short this time. Meanwhile, across the field from the game, the Cubs swimming team took on the Wolves in the most highly anticipated meet of the year, featuring two of the best teams in the area. The two Varsity teams were tied going into the final event, but the Wolves came away with a 1-2 finish, defeating Mayfield 90-80. The loss was the first for the Varsity team since March of 2019—a streak of 31 consecutive meets. To win a 3rd consecutive league title, the Cubs will have to beat the Wolves at the Prep League Finals in two weeks. The JV team continued its mastery of the Prep League—91 straight wins dating back to the 2004 season! JV swept away the Wolves and even had a JV school record set in the 200 Medley Relay by Zora Hinrichs '23, Ava Kook '24, Sophie Limongelli '25 and Tillie VanAken '23. The Badminton team looked to win its 2nd straight match, but fell just short against a tough team from Sierra Vista. The Cubs lost 11-10 in a tight affair, but will close out their season in two weeks with a home match against Pasadena Poly.

If this week's results were any indication, the final few weeks of the spring season will be very exciting! The Track & Field team will be competing in the Tiger Invitational at South Pasadena today and Sade Falese ’23 will be in the Arcadia Invitational in the long jump tomorrow. We hope everyone has a blessed Easter weekend—can't wait to get back at it next week! GO CUBS!
