All four spring sports are having memorable seasons!

The winter weather has wreaked havoc on our spring sports schedules, but the rain has not slowed our Cubs spirits or their successes! All four spring sports are having memorable seasons so far. Perhaps the highlight of the season came just yesterday in the gym as our co-ed Badminton team (combined with the Cubs of Loyola) hosted Fairmont Prep in the Cubs Cave. The Mayfield/Loyola badminton team is made up of mostly novices new to the sport who often play some of the most talented high school players in the state. As a result, the Cubs had not won a match since the 2017 season. There have been numerous near misses, but the team could not get over the hump, until last night. The Cubs defeated Fairmont Prep of Anaheim, 18-3, to improve their record this season to 1-4! With two more matches remaining, the future of Cubs Badminton looks bright!

Our more traditional teams of Softball, Swim & Dive and Track & Field have continued their trend of recent successes. Softball stands at 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the Prep League, currently in 2nd place, still with a chance to win their first league title since 2018. The Cubs went 2-2 at the prestigious Torrey Invitational in La Jolla, and with a team of 23, 20 of whom are freshmen and sophomores, the Cubs appear to be on the rise!
Swim & Dive also has proven to be one of the most talented teams in the area once again. The Cubs Varsity team has won a school record 31 consecutive dual meets going back to April, 2019. The AquaCubs are in search of their 3rd consecutive league title and are one of the top ranked teams in CIF Division 2. The JV team is also on a roll—looking well on their way to winning their 18th consecutive title!

The Track & Field team has had its share of impressive results in 2023 as well. Sissy Page '25 broke the school high jump record and Cornell-commit Sade Falese '23 won the long jump last weekend at the Stanford Invitational with a mark that ranks her currently at the #6 long jumper in the state of California!! The team is hoping to win their 7th consecutive Prep League title later this month.

The Equestrian team has had great results so far this season but has had their last two shows rained out. The team will compete in the final two IEL shows of the school year on 4/22 and 4/23.

It appears that spring has finally sprung and with about a month to go in the Cubs Athletic year—there is much to be excited about. Hope to see you at a meet, match, show or game soon!
