April is always a very exciting month!

With Spring Break beginning today, the spring sports have just over a month left in their regular season. As league action heats up, the Cubs have also been well traveled. The Softball team is down in La Jolla competing in this weekend's 16th Annual Torrey Invitational, hosted by La Jolla Country Day. Yesterday they opened play in the tournament with a 5-4 loss to San Diego HS. The Cubs have another game this afternoon before finishing play with a doubleheader tomorrow. Mayfield currently sits in 2nd place in the Prep League, one game behind Providence.
The Varsity Swim team traveled north last weekend to take part in the 33rd Annual De La Salle Invitational in Concord against some of the strongest teams in Northern California. The Cubs placed 6th overall in the meet, and had a total of 12 CIF Automatic & Consideration times. The Cubs stayed busy this week with three meets in three days—against Chadwick, rival FSHA and a non-league affair yesterday at Webb. Mayfield swept all three meets convincingly, including a dominating win over FSHA at Occidental on Wednesday. FSHA still leads the 2022-2023 Rivalry Series, 5-4, with Track & Field to determine this year's winner at the CIF Finals in May!

Badminton hosted their first match of the season yesterday, battling Long Beach Cabrillo in front of the home fans. The Cubs are playing a non-league schedule in 2023 and have come very close to earning their first team win in nearly a decade. The Cubs dropped another close match yesterday to Cabrillo and will look to get a win when they return to the court in April.

Track & Field competes in the Pasadena Games today and tomorrow at South Pasadena High School. The Cubs had their cluster meet rained out last week, but had a handful of girls compete at the Arcadia Distance Carnival last weekend. The Pasadena Games will give the entire team a chance to compete against high level competition in the area.

The Equestrian schedule has been severely hampered by the weather this winter. One show has already been canceled and this Sunday's final show of the year has been postponed. The Cub riders await word on the rescheduled date to hold their final IEL show of the school year.

April is always a very exciting month for our spring sports as Softball, Swim/Dive and Track/Field all will be in the running for a Prep League title. When we return from break, the games and meets will be thrilling. Hope to see you there!

Have a great Spring Break and GO CUBS!
