All four spring sports are in action this week!

On Monday this week, we had a Letter of Intent signing for two superb Cub athletes. Congratulations to Sade Falese ’23 who will be participating in Track & Field for Cornell University and Holly Gmelich ‘23 who will be Swimming for Washington University in St. Louis!

For the first time this season, all four spring sports are in action this week. The week began on Tuesday with the swim team traveling to Westwood for a non-league meet with Marymount HS.  The Cubs came away with a sweep as the Varsity team won 100-70, led by individual race wins from Kate Georgino '25 (100 Fly & 100 Back), Zoe Chiu '26 (100 Free), and Marcella Laguna '23 (100 Breaststroke). The JV Aquacubs were even more impressive, winning 112-11, sweeping all 10 events on the day. Both teams improved to 2-0 and will head down Orange Grove to take on new Prep League foe Maranatha this Tuesday.
Softball was next up as their league opener against Wesridge was postponed a day due to the weather. Once the Cubs took the field with the Tigers, it was all Mayfield. The Cubs overwhelmed the outmatched Tigers 15-1 in a dominant performance. Softball's record improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. Next week the Cubs will step back out of league play to host San Marino and then travel to Alhambra.

The Badminton team, made of our own Cubs playing on a coed team with the Loyola Cubs, opened their season yesterday on the road against Pasadena Poly. The Panthers defeated the coed Cubs, 14-7, in a very close affair. Mayfield and Loyola continue to show huge improvement over recent years and will no doubt get a win soon in the growing sport. The Cubs will continue to practice hard before their next scrimmage against highly regarded San Marino on March 16.

Finally, after getting last weekend's meet at La Cañada High School rained out, the track and field team will finally see their entire squad in action tomorrow morning as the Cubs travel to Covina to take part in the Colt Classic. For many members of the team, it will be the first meet of the year and will be a great tuneup before this Tuesday's 1st Prep League cluster meet at John Burroughs High School.

Make sure to support your Cubs with a Booster Club donation or just come on out to a Softball game at Brookside, a Badminton match in the gym, or a Swim or Track meet in the area, and cheer on your Cubs! GO CUBS!
