Wild weather wreaks havoc on Cubs calendar

While the athletics calendar says that spring has sprung, the weather forecast has wreaked havoc on the Cubs calendar this week. Both the Swimming and Track invitationals scheduled for tomorrow have been canceled due to the impending storm coming through southern California. The Softball game that was originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon was played a day early, just to beat the rain coming through town. A few competitions were able to be held in the cold and windy conditions this week. The Softball team played both Flintridge Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart of Los Angeles at home this week—splitting the two games. FSHA got the better of Mayfield in Tuesday's non-league game. The game was tight for four innings before the Tologs pulled away late for a 10-2 win. The victory gives FSHA a 503 lead in the Rivalry Series during the 2022-2023 school year with just Swimming/Diving and Track/Field remaining on the schedule. The Cubs will have to win both matchups to tie the Series 5-5 and hold onto the streak. It has been four years since FSHA has defeated Mayfield in the Series, but the Tologs are on the verge after the big softball win. Thankfully the Cubs got right back out on the field on Wednesday with a win of 8-5 over Sacred Heart of LA. Mayfield's record now stands at 2-2 and the Cubs will begin the search for their 1st Prep League title since 2018 next week against Westridge.

The Swimming & Diving teams opened their season with a league meet on Wednesday on the road against Westridge. Both teams look poised to compete for another Prep League title. The Varsity squad won all eleven events in a 131-34 win over the Tigers and the JV team also won every event in an overwhelming 137-3 win over Westridge. The Cubs will hit the road again next week as they travel out to Westwood to take on Marymount.

Track & Field has the week off from meets after the La Cañada Invitational was canceled and the Badminton team will finally open their season next week at Pasadena Poly.

With early season league matchups, the Cubs need all the support they can get as the teams look to win a multitude of league titles this season. You can support our student-athletes in a variety of ways, by joining the Booster Club, wearing your Mayfield red around town, and the best way is to come out to a meet, game, or match and cheer the Cubs on from the stands. GO CUBS!
