    Natalie Johnson ’14, a Notre Dame scholar-athlete, takes leadership role at tech start-up

    Natalie Johnson is a true scholar-athlete and leader, a woman of faith who credits Mayfield’s “Actions Not Words” philosophy as a driving force in her life. In college, she was the strong and and passionate captain of the Notre Dame University Varsity Volleyball Team. As a career trailblazer she is working as a project coordinator in a tech-start up firm founded by a Mayfield sister, Marissa Osterkamp Bell ’03. We checked in with Natalie so she could fill us in on her admirable journey since her Mayfield days.

    Last summer, following the publication of Mayfield’s Postscripts magazine, Christina Anselmo ’86 reached out to our Technical Theatre Conservatory teacher, Phil Velasco, praising Mayfield’s program, which teaches girls how to not only design, but build sets using power tools.

    Wow! November! It seems like time flies faster every year. Meanwhile, the students at Mayfield Senior School and we in the Alumnae Council have been busy! What excited me most at our first meeting learning about the current goings-on at Mayfield is the new holistic approach to service that is part of every area of the curriculum. Now, from freshmen to seniors, all classes participate in service projects, allowing to students to make service a part of their daily lives. This was just one of many changes that are taking place every day at Mayfield.

  • Sabrina Beason ’03 is Policy Director at Maternal Mental Health NOW

    Alumnae Council Spotlight — Sabrina Beason ’03

    Sabrina Beason ’03 embodies the Holy Child values of joy, balance and reverence in her new job with Maternal Mental Health NOW, a non-profit project based in Los Angeles—but paramount of these, she says, is balance. As their Policy Director, Sabrina is responsible for, in her words, “building relationships with elected officials on the local, regional and statewide level in order to move policy around maternal mental health forward.” Sabrina also produces print literature designed to keep community stakeholders educated about current practices and developments in the field of the mental health care of expectant and postpartum mothers. But Sabrina is no stranger to such an interdisciplinary life. Indeed, this inclination has followed her since her own days as a student at 500 Bellefontaine Street.
