Head's Weekly Message — Feb. 8, 2019

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

What a fun Spirit Week this has been! It started on Saturday when the girls had a great time at our Winter Semi-Formal, a beautiful evening despite the rain. I was especially proud of the leadership of our Sophomore Class who organized this memorable event. Throughout the week I loved seeing everyone dressed up in their themed gear. But the highlight was definitely our Second Annual Class Dance-Off. Click here to see their moves (plus a surprise performance) and the winner!

Today I’m so looking forward to the Red and White team activities and especially our talent show this afternoon—such a wonderful way to end a wonderful week! Our Mayfield spirit is alive and thriving!

It was great to see so many ninth-grade parents on Wednesday at our Freshman Curriculum evening. We were able to answer lots of questions as we look forward to the registration process for next year’s classes, which will begin in the next few weeks.

Looking ahead, I want to let you know about some staffing developments for next year. Last summer, on almost a moment’s notice—our very talented alumna Andrea Sweeney ’12 jumped in with her whole heart to lead our theatre program. Andrea has loved being back at Mayfield, and she has had such a powerful and positive impact on our community. She has decided, however, that she needs to dedicate her full energies towards her acting and directing career. We know that Andrea will keep connected to her alma mater—and we look forward to following her successes!

In addition, Laura Grimm, beloved member of the Mayfield community for 21 years, has decided to retire. Laura has been in charge of our Christian Service program and has been instrumental in planning and leading countless student retreats. We will miss Laura’s warmth and wisdom, but we know that she will enjoy her well-earned time with her 15 grandchildren!

Finally, it is with great pride and gratitude that I let you know that Angela Howell ’76 has accepted a promotion to the position of Associate Head of School. A total Mayfield “lifer,” Angela returned to her alma mater in 1980 after graduating from Stanford University. Angela has held many positions at Mayfield including teacher, Athletic Director, and Dean of Students. She has successfully led our Development Office for over 25 years with skill and dedication. Angela’s new position will allow her to partner with me more closely in furthering our fundraising and strategic initiatives, and I couldn’t be more excited!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
