Rainy week fails to dampen winning Cub drive and spirit

It has been a wet and wild week for Cubs Athletics! Believe it or not, with all of the crazy weather conditions, we did not have to cancel a single game. Practice, however, has been a different story. The Cubs were able to squeeze in a couple of games in all three winter sports and some of the results will go a long way towards pushing our teams into the CIF playoffs in a few weeks.
The highlight of the week came in Arcadia on Tuesday afternoon. The Varsity Basketball team went on the road to take on the No. 3 team in D-5AA, Rio Hondo Prep, in a battle to shore up a playoff berth. The Cubs trailed the Kares by 10 at the half before staging a 19-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters—winning a very important game in the Prep League, 47-36. The Cubs were led by sophomore sensation, Sarah Tupy, who led the team with 17 points and 12 rebounds. (See videos from the game on our Twitter feed!) With games last night against league-leader Flintridge Prep, and this afternoon against Westridge, the Cubs will need to be at the top of their game to come away victorious.

Varsity Soccer also picked up an important victory on Monday. The Cubs defeated Providence, 5-1, on a cold and wet field at the Glendale Sports Complex. With Thursday night's key game against Pasadena Poly (results came in after press time!) and Saturday’s tilt against Chadwick, the Cubs are on the verge of clinching a seventh consecutive playoff appearance.

Water Polo braved frigid conditions in two home games, coming up short in both, but the Cubs are still tied for 4th place in league and with two more wins, they could also qualify for the playoffs.

As always, the Boosters look to support our Cubs in a variety of ways. The best way you can support our student-athletes is by joining our Booster Club—all families are welcome, you do not need to have a daughter on a team.

One of our best events of the year is coming up soon—the 26th annual Booster BBQ. On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Boosters will take over the Senior Parking Lot after school. As the Cubs basketball teams battle cross-town rival Pasadena Poly in the gym, the Boosters will have a FREE BBQ. You will be able to buy all the Cubs gear you need to keep you warm, and we will also be raffling off two gift baskets. We hope to pack the gym—wear your red and come cheer loudly!

Thank you for all of your support, our Cubs truly appreciate it. The forecast looks great in the coming weeks for the weather and for the Cubs winter sports. Hope to see you at a game!

Go Cubs!
