All fall teams continue their fiery start; Volleyball undefeated in league.

Steve Bergen
First, congratulations to Athlete of the Week for Sept. 2-8—Audrey Bland '19. Audrey, a junior and a captain on the JV Volleyball team, has led the Cubs through a terrific start. Her leadership and skill on the court are helping our JV Cubs mature into one of the better teams in the area.
Fall teams continue their hot streak. The volleyball program, which began in August, has two first place teams. JV is undefeated with an 8-0 overall record and they are in first place with a perfect 5-0 record in Prep League play. Varsity also is off to its best league start in many years. After defeating Westridge on Thursday night in four sets, the Cubs are alone in first place with a 5-0 record and 9-3 overall. The Frosh/Soph team is not to be forgotten as they improved to 2-3 in league with their three-set victory over Westridge.

Varsity tennis won both of their matches this week: a 13-5 win over Alemany on Tuesday and a 10-8 thriller in their Prep League-opener Thursday afternoon against Westridge. The doubles tandems of Alexia Saigh/Rebecca Leiva and the Kingston sisters (Ashlinn & Elise) each won all six of their sets this week. Senior Lauren Panajotovic cemented her status as the league favorite by winning her six matches as well.

Cubs golf traveled to take on Buckley out in Van Nuys on Tuesday and came away with a resounding win, 236-299. The team was led by Amy Baum '22, Ysabelle Magat '21, and Megan Moffat '20—each shooting low scores for the year.

Cross Country ran quite well in the Rosemead Invitational last weekend. In a race run by grade levels, the seniors placed second overall, Sophomores were eighth, and Freshmen placed tenth. The Cubs continued to garner respect as the fourth ranked team in the latest CIF Division 4 poll.

We have a record number of student-athletes playing fall sports are there are many ways parents can continue to support our Cubs. Obviously, we love when you come to the games and cheer us on. Follow us @msscubs on Twitter. And one of the best ways is by becoming a Booster Club member. There are four levels to join our Booster Club and our teams benefit greatly from all your generosity. All donations support each of our 13 sports.

Please read more about the mission of our Boosters and join today. Thank you in advance for your support!

I’m looking forward to seeing you out at a game this week!

Go Cubs!
