The top interest among incoming freshmen? (It’s not video games.)

There are volleyball players, yearbook members and student council leaders by the dozen. But the most popular interest among our incoming freshmen appears to be… studying!
Of the 80 entering freshmen, 66 of them are Honor Roll students, a clear sign of the strong academic dedication of our newest Mayfield girls. In addition, one-third of them have been admitted to Mayfield with honors, earning cumulative 7th- and 8th-grade GPAs of 4.0 or above and high standardized scores on the entrance exam.

“What impresses me so much about our incoming class are the high academic standards they will bring to campus,” said Admissions Director Merilisa Ramirez. “There are so many good things to say about the Class of 2022, but their dedication to their studies is definitely going to make its mark.”

Here are some by-the-numbers fun facts about their top interests:
  • 46 volleyball players
  • 45 yearbook staffers
  • 41 student council officers
  • 37 soccer players
  • 37 speech/debate members
  • 31 track & field athletes
  • 28 newspaper staffers
Three girls are named Grace and another three are Sofias, although spelled differently!

The freshman class is also among the most diverse classes ever admitted to Mayfield at 58%, bringing total student body diversity to 55%. In addition, while more than 70% of our students are Catholic, we are enriched by girls from many faith traditions, including Buddhist, Christian Orthodox, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Protestant.

I’m so proud of the fact that Mayfield represents the diversity of our community and is a welcoming and inclusive campus to all,” Mrs. Ramirez said. “The gifts that our students bring from their various cultures and faiths are unique blessings to us all.”

Our freshman will arrive on campus from 32 different schools. Nineteen members of the class are the only students coming from their elementary or middle school.

So as we say our heartfelt goodbyes to the Class of 2018, we are ready to embrace and welcome the Class of 2022 to the Mayfield family!
