Head's Weekly Message — May 12, 2023

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

 

First, I want to thank everyone who attended the beautiful liturgy and brunch last Sunday. It meant so much to me. I definitely felt the love which I will hold in my heart forever. Here are some of the lovely portraits taken that day. It has been the honor and privilege of my life to serve Cornelia Connelly’s beautiful mission, and it has transformed me in profound ways. I have experienced Mayfield as a community of kindness, growth and faith–I will carry the spirit of our school with me forever with great gratitude and love.

 

Goodbyes are often bittersweet, and I certainly am feeling those emotions today as we recognize the final day of classes for our beloved seniors. These next few weeks will be filled with opportunities to celebrate and honor the Class of 2023.  Today at Mass, the entire school will send them off with blessings of gratitude and love.

 

The celebration will continue tomorrow evening at Prom, which I know will be so much fun. I just can’t wait to see our students all dressed up! Parents of prom attendees—please make sure to talk with your daughters to make sure that you are clear on and approve of all the pre- and post-prom arrangements to help  ensure a wonderful and safe evening for everyone.

 

Our seniors will begin their service projects on Monday—but we will be welcoming them back to campus for our Senior Tea on Wednesday May 17–one of my very favorite Mayfield Senior traditions.  

 

We will also see many of our seniors next weekend as we enjoy the culmination of our year in the arts. On Thursday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday May 20 at 7:30 p.m., our Advanced Theatre students will perform their original production: “You’d Never Know - Experiences of a Teenage Girl.”  

 

Selected scenes from the show will also be performed on Friday, May 19 at 7:30 as part of our “Primavera’ festival, which will bring together visual artists and  creative writers for their final presentations and gallery show. Studio Art and Photography will be on display in Strub Hall’s first floor Gallery, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and at 5:30 pm AP Studio Art, AP Photography, Film and Media, and Creative Writing students will present their work in Pike Auditorium. This arts weekend will conclude on Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. when Mayfield’s Instrumentalists and Vocalists will be presenting “Music in May” at the Memorial Park Bandshell located at 85 E. Holly Street in Pasadena. I can’t wait to have my heart and soul filled to the brim by our amazing artists!

 

The following week, on Wednesday, May 24 at 6:00 p.m., we will host our final Sports Awards Banquet of the year. Over my tenure at Mayfield Senior, I have been so inspired by our incredible athletes. Yesterday afternoon I attended my last Mayfield game–watching our amazing softball team play their CIF quarterfinal game with such joy, determination, and grit. Go Cubs forever!

 

As we look ahead even further to Sunday, June 4–when we will celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2023–senior parents please pay attention to an email that was sent yesterday with all the information you need on graduation seating and portrait scheduling opening tomorrow morning: Saturday, May 13 at 9:00 a.m.

 

Finally, I want to thank everyone who participated in our “Be Our Hero” fundraiser this past Wednesday. I humbly ask those who have not yet made their annual fund donation to please consider making a gift. We count on your support to balance our budget each year and it would be a special blessing for me personally if we could reach 100% parent participation during my last few weeks at Mayfield. Thank you in advance and know that you and your families will always be in my prayers.
