The Cubs finished another amazing year in the Prep League, with two league titles!

The final week of the regular season was a thrilling one. In addition to honoring the members of the Class of 2023 at our Senior Nights for Softball, Swim & Dive, and Track & Field—the Cubs won two Prep League titles! Track & Field won their 8th consecutive championship in a tight meet on Tuesday night in Burbank. The Cubs bookended the meet by winning both the 4 X 100 Relay (Alyssa Gallardo '23, Sade Falese '23, Liz Goethals '23 and Monika Vargas '25) and the 4 X 400 Relay (Liz Goethals, Leah Whitfield '26, Natalie Miera '23 and Cecilia Kvochak '23). In between the two relay wins, the Cubs won six individual events, led by Vargas' two victories in the 100 & 300 hurdles, Falese in the long jump, Goethals in the discus, Sissy Page '25 in the high jump, and Whitfield in the triple jump. The meet was the closest Finals in years, but the Cubs continued their historic run of titles by scoring 136 points, ahead of 2nd place Westridge's 106 points. All of the event winners will have the opportunity to compete in next week's CIF Division 4 Prelims.

Not to be outdone, the Swim & Dive team captured their 3rd consecutive title in Saturday's Prep League Finals at Poly. The Cubs won the first event of the meet, the 200 Medley Relay, with a team consisting of Kate Georgino '25, Sophia Georgino, Holly Gmelich '23 and Ella Yoon '24 and then showed off their incredible team depth the rest of the way. The Cubs did not win another event, but the team's 376 points ranked 4th highest with any team in history of the meet. Qualifiers for next week's CIF Prelims included all of the members of the medley relay, Holly Hillman '24, Marcella Laguna '23, Olivia Laguna '25 and Rachael Yoon '24. In addition, the Cubs two divers—Morgan Burns '25 and Ann Tanaka '26—have already completed their season by finishing 6th and 13th at the CIF Division 2 Finals this week. Burns' finish was the best for a Cub diver at the meet since 2006, after breaking the school record last week. For good measure, the JV AquaCubs won their 18th straight Prep League title—an unbelievable streak that began before any of the current Cubs were even born!

The Softball team clinched a playoff berth with a 7-3 victory over Chadwick in Wednesday's regular season finale. The Cubs will find out tomorrow morning their path to a CIF Championship as the Division 6 brackets will be released. The Cubs finished 4th in a tough Prep League, just one game out of 3rd and two games out of 2nd. The battle-tested team should be ready for a deep playoff run starting next week!

Equestrian had their final shows of the year last weekend, we will announce the results next week while Badminton ended their regular season and now awaits to see if they qualified for the CIF team and/or individual playoffs.

As the spring season ends, the Cubs finished another amazing year in the Prep League. With four league titles (Swim & Dive, Tennis, Track & Field, and Volleyball) this year, Mayfield won more than any other team in league as Prep (two), Chadwick (one), Poly (one), Providence (one) and Westridge (one) all finished well behind the Cubs.

GO CUBS!
