All winter teams ended the season on a high note!

The winter sports regular season ended this week with a chance to honor the members of the Class of 2023 and with all three teams ending on a high note! The Water Polo Cubs had already held their Senior Night, but they traveled to Brentwood in the season finale on Wednesday night and came away with a 17-12 victory. Despite missing four of the team's six starting players due to injury, the Cubs showed their depth in the solid road win. The Cubs completed their season with a 10-6 overall record and a 5th place finish in the Prep League.
The Basketball team has been very competitive but struggled to find wins this season in a frustrating year. However, last night they had the opportunity to honor Chloe Clawson '23 and Yasmeen Elrabat '23, as they played their final game in the Cubs Cave. The team played a truly inspired game and overwhelmed the team from Westridge 46-23. The Cubs had lost to the Tigers only two weeks earlier, but everyone got in on the action last night as Mayfield wrapped up a 6th place finish in league.

The Soccer teams honored their seniors as well this week. It was the JV team who had the chance to honor Emma Watson '23 on Tuesday, sending her off a winner with a 4-0 victory over Poly on Tuesday. Then last night, Varsity hosted Poly at Occidental College in the final regular season game for one of the most successful classes in school history. Francesca Agliolo '23, Sade Falese '23, Ella Gallo '23, Rhea Gerontides '23, Liz Goethals '23, Katie Gomez '23, Miranda McDevitt '23 and Cami Pidoux '23 shined in the game against Poly, as Mayfield came away with a big 8-3 win over the Panthers. The Cubs completed a 17-4-1 season, finishing 8-2 in the competitive Prep League, good enough for 2nd place. The Cubs qualified for the CIF Division 3 playoffs and will find out tomorrow who their 1st round opponent on Wednesday will be.

With Basketball and Water Polo now done for the season and soccer entering the playoffs, the spring sports (Badminton, Softball, Swim & Dive and Track & Field) will hold their tryouts next week. We hope to have a great turnout for the Soccer playoff games. GO CUBS!
