Head of School Search Update: Upcoming Opportunities to Meet the Candidates

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

On behalf of the Head of School Search Committee, we would like to provide an update on the search process and invite you to meet our finalists.

Our search consultants, Tom Hudnut and Arlyce Seibert from RG175, visited campus in June and received your thoughtful feedback through their meetings with various constituents and the community survey. Thank you to the many of you who responded to the survey and participated in meetings. With that input, we developed a Position Statement that articulated the qualities of a successful candidate for our next Head of School. This Position Statement was circulated widely and received positive response over the summer. Mayfield’s strong reputation, mission and values, supportive community and joyful environment made our opportunity very appealing to both experienced educational leaders and rising stars. In September, the Search Committee narrowed the applicant pool to several highly qualified candidates to interview in person. From those interviews, the Search Committee reached a unanimous decision to invite two candidates for multi-day visits as finalists. We are confident that either of these individuals would provide effective and energizing Mission-centered leadership and vision as the Head of School for Mayfield for years to come.

The two finalists will be on campus for separate three-day visits. This is an opportunity for our community to learn more about each of the finalists, and for each finalist to learn more about us. The entire Mayfield community will have an opportunity to meet the candidates. We will send you information on each candidate prior to their respective visits. We will also include a link to an online feedback form to share your thoughts on the finalists with the Search Committee.

The following are the dates and times for alums, students, current parents and past parents to meet each of the finalists.
  • Finalist #1: Thursday, October 27, 6:00-7:30 p.m., in-person in Pike Auditorium (with Zoom remote option—link forthcoming)
  • Finalist #2: Wednesday, November 2, 6:00-7:30 p.m., in-person in Pike Auditorium (with Zoom remote option—link forthcoming)
Faculty, staff and administration will be provided different times and opportunities to meet the candidates. Please note that the Search Committee will be thoroughly investigating the references for each finalist. Because of the serious nature of this process and the professional courtesies we must provide to the candidates, we ask that you allow the Search Committee alone to conduct reference checks. In keeping with the respectful and professional protocol we have agreed to with the candidates, if you know of someone who it would be appropriate for the committee to speak with, please contact us so that we may do the appropriate follow-up.

Following the visits and reference checks, the Search Committee will review the feedback provided by the community, and determine a final candidate to recommend to the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees holds the responsibility of formally selecting the next Head of School.

This is an exciting time for our community and we look forward to your participation in the selection of the next Head of School for Mayfield Senior School. As was stated above, we will provide you more details, including brief bios of each candidate just prior to their respective visits. In the meantime, please mark these dates on your calendar. And feel free to visit our Head of School Search webpage to review past communications and ongoing updates.
