Head's Weekly Message — Sept 23, 2022

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

Thank you so much for all the positive energy and words of affirmation yesterday at Back to School Night. I hope you enjoyed the evening as much as I did. I’m sure you were able to  see why I feel very blessed to be working with such an awesome faculty.  They are smart, dedicated, and innovative, but most of all they care so deeply about your daughters’ growth, not just as students but also as young women. We are extremely grateful for your support as we strive to create the most excellent academic environment for our precious students.

As I mentioned yesterday evening, while we are continually inspired and  guided by all seven of  the Goals of the Network of Holy Child schools, each year we choose one goal on which to focus on in a special way. This year we have chosen Goal One: Holy Child Schools foster a faith commitment that engenders a joyous personal relationship with God in addressing the challenges of the world. I’m so glad that we made that choice because really everything we do at Mayfield springs from this. We see this faith-filled joy every day at school–in the ways that our students build community, engage whole-heartedly in their studies, and give of themselves through the arts, athletics, and all their extracurricular interests. We saw this faith-filled joy in action last Friday in a special way during our Mass of the Holy Spirit as the forty-three members of the student Campus Ministry Council stood to be recognized. And we see it every Friday as our community comes together in support of those in need through our Loaves and Fishes program.

Our beautiful Goal One was reinforced for me again on Tuesday when I attended the 17th Annual Los Angeles Catholic Prayer Breakfast, with a number of our students at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. After a lovely liturgy we were all treated to a wonderful presentation by Curtis Martin, the Founder and CEO of FOCUS, an organization that fosters the faith life of Catholic college students. If you have a chance–take a listen to his talk which begins at about minute 26– it is really inspiring.

I’m so looking forward to attending another upcoming breakfast–this Tuesday,  September 27, when we have invited all families new to Mayfield to participate in a special gathering at which they will learn more about our fundraising priorities and  engagement opportunities. I hope to see many of you there!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
