Head's Weekly Message — May 6, 2022

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

It was so lovely to see so many Mayfield moms and daughters at our liturgy and brunch last Sunday (pictures coming soon!). I especially want to thank Arianne Rising ‘23 and her mother Anna-Christine for the inspiring reflection they shared. With beautiful weather, delicious food, and the best company it was a wonderful way for us to begin the month of May—a month dedicated in a special way to celebrating our own Blessed Mother Mary.

May is also the month when we celebrate the beautiful and holy gift of motherhood.  Especially during these last two years, mothers everywhere have been called upon to face so many unanticipated challenges. This week, we have felt particularly grateful to all the Mayfield mothers who provided so many delicious treats to show their appreciation for our faculty and staff.

It was such a blessing yesterday to honor those particular mothers who have provided so much support and leadership through our Parents’ Board this year. I want to thank in a very special way Parent Board President Kerry Franco who has given so much of her time, energy, and talent to Mayfield over the past eight years. I also want to thank Kim Parry, our incoming Parent Board President and everyone who has stepped up to serve next year. The Parent Board always welcomes new participants—please consider getting involved!

It’s hard to believe that next week our beloved seniors will be attending their final Mayfield Senior classes. I’m so looking forward to our Senior Send-Off Mass next Friday, at which we will bless the amazing Class of 2022. Our Graduation webpage is now up and running. Please note that graduation seating assignments and photo appointments open tomorrow—Saturday morning, May 7 at 8:30 a.m. As a reminder all senior families will be assigned six seats in the reserved section. There will be plenty of additional seats for more family and friends in the unreserved section—no tickets needed.

Finally—I want to wish our Mayfield mothers a very happy and blessed Mother’s Day as we pray for peace, health and joy for all mothers around the world. Recently our beloved Director of Campus Ministry, Teri Gonzales, shared a very beautiful Mother’s Day prayer with me. I was moved by it and I decided to share it with you. Please see below. Happy Mother’s Day!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin

A Mother's Day Prayer
by Jennifer Bober

Good and gracious God,
We thank you today for the gift of Motherhood, brought to perfection in
our holy mother, Mary.
We ask you to bless all mothers, who show your face to the world through their love.
We ask you to comfort those who bear the pain of losing a child and those for whom motherhood is a broken dream.
Bless with your peace those who mourn the loss of their mothers or suffer wounds from a mother’s imperfections.
Bless all the women who share a mother’s love with those who are not their children.
Give us a spirit of gratitude for those who have been mothers to us and help us, the children of their bodies and hearts, return the love they have so graciously given.

Amen.
