Head's Weekly Message —April 29, 2022

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

As I looked out over our beautiful green lawns on Wednesday afternoon, tears came to my eyes, and I must admit I felt quite wistful. Our lovely new grass symbolizes the near completion of our Strub renovation project, but it also means that it will soon be time for me to say goodbye to the amazing Class of 2022. We have all been through so much together during these last two years—I really don’t know how we would have made it without this group of loving, determined and kind young women.

As we begin to focus in earnest on graduation and all the exciting, related events, I want to let senior parents know that our 2022 Commencement Webpage will go live this Monday, May 2. On this page you will find everything you will need for your planning purposes including information about seating reservations and the opportunity for individual and family portraits on graduation day which will be offered free of charge. Next Saturday, May 7 at 8:30 a.m.the link to reserve your six seats in the assigned seating area and to schedule your photography time will go live. Please note that there will be a large unreserved seating section for all additional guests. Senior parents—you will be receiving emails with more information and reminders next week so please be on the lookout for those.

While I know I am going to miss our beloved seniors so much, I also know that the Class of 2023 is going to provide wonderful leadership. I was very inspired yesterday as we thanked our present student government leaders for all their dedicated service this year and welcomed the new officers for the 2022-23 school year during a lovely prayer service. I also felt particularly blessed to be able to spend time on Wednesday morning with some of our new leaders as we worked together at Union Station to prepare and serve meals for our brothers and sisters in need. This was my first opportunity to return to Union Station since the start of the pandemic, and I was so inspired to be able to share the experience with these students.

This weekend I know will supply me with lots of inspiration too. I am so looking forward to attending the Dance Concert this evening—the best Friday date night. I hope to see many of you there, and also at the Mother-Daughter Mass and Brunch this Sunday. This is one of my very favorite Mayfield Senior traditions—a time for us all to reflect upon these special and sacred relationships.

Finally, I want to congratulate our amazing athletes. The Cubs are having another incredibly successful season. I also want to remind you that our composting program started this morning. While dropping off lunches for Loaves and Fishes, I was so pleased to bring in my vegetable scraps and coffee grounds to help decrease my own carbon footprint.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
