Early success in our post-break games

After enjoying a Spring Break (with some of our Soccer Cubs traveling and playing in Scotland!), the Cubs have returned to action with early success in our post-break games. The Swim & Dive team continued its successful 2022 campaign with a thrilling 86-86 victory over Flintridge Prep on Tuesday. The meet featured the two best teams in league and the winners of the last three league championships. The short-handed Cubs were missing four of their Varsity swimmers but still received great performances from a number of girls to pull out the victory. Mayfield is now 9-0 overall and 3-0 in league with two more meets next week before the league finals meet on 4/23 at Pasadena Poly.
The same day the Swim team faced off with the Wolves, the Softball team hosted Flintridge Prep and came away with a key 9-6 victory. The win keeps the Cubs in contention for a league title with a very important game this afternoon against 2nd place Providence at Brookside Field.  Both teams are trailing 1st place Rio Hondo Prep (RHP), and today's winner will have the inside track to compete with RHP for the title. The Cubs will make the playoffs regardless, as the top-3 teams qualify from the Prep League!

Badminton got started after the break with a match on Monday at home against Alhambra. The Cubs continued to show great improvement, taking many of the matches to a deciding third set, but Alhambra was able to get the better of the Cubs once again. Today, Mayfield will host South Pasadena in the gym at 3:15 p.m.

Track & Field ends their two-week break from competition today. The Cubs will brave the high temperatures and compete in the Tiger Invitational at South Pasadena High School beginning at 11:30. Tomorrow, we will have one athlete, Sade Falese ‘23, compete in the most prestigious high school track meet in the nation, the Arcadia Invitational. Sade will compete in her best event: the long jump! Then next week, the Cubs will have their final League Cluster meet of the year.

It is a very exciting time for our student-athletes. The next three weeks will determine league champions and CIF qualifiers. It is beautiful weather to come see a game, match, or meet.  We hope to see you cheering on your Cubs!
