Head's Weekly Message — Feb. 4, 2022

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

It is so gratifying to see Mayfield Senior come together to serve and support others.  Thank you to everyone who participated in the Blood Drive on Tuesday. I think every donation appointment was filled—such a generous gift of love. Thanks also to everyone who participated in our Booster Clinic yesterday. We know that being fully vaccinated and boosted is a very important step that we all can take to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities. Finally, thanks to everyone who continues to support our other important service initiatives especially our weekly Loaves and Fishes and Casserole Cubs programs. My husband Skip and I have made a commitment to prepare and donate 12 lunches every Friday—it feels so good to know that we are helping our brothers and sisters who might otherwise go without.

It also feels so good that we are starting to be able to gather together as a school community again. Yesterday we launched both our month-long Black History celebration as well as our Alum Career Lunch Series, by welcoming Jaimie Milner ’06 to campus for a wonderful talk with our students. Jaimie is an accomplished photographer who uses “photographic portraiture as her primary medium by which she aspires to capture, empower and inspire the human spirit.” Just featured on Good Day LA, Jaimie spoke to us about her fascinating career path and her new book “Gifted” which will be available soon.

It has also been so wonderful to be able to watch our amazing students perform.  Last weekend’s Choreographers’ Ball was simply stunning—bringing tears of both joy and awe to my eyes. This past Wednesday’s decisive JV and Varsity basketball wins over West Ridge were awe inspiring too. It was a fabulous Senior Night celebration!

I think we are all really looking forward to celebrating our entire student body at our upcoming Spirit Week. Last year’s remote version was great—but nothing can compare to the in-person fun. With themed “free dress” all week and highlighted by our class dance competition and Red vs. White spirit games—I know we are all going to have a fabulous time!

Finally, I hope to see many of you this Tuesday at our Benefit gift-gathering celebration at Handel’s Ice Cream Parlor—yummy! (Scroll down in this newsletter to learn more about how to donate auction gifts and/or become an event sponsor.) And please also plan to join us at next Friday’s Hearts for Arts party. With the Beatles’ theme “All you need is Love,” this is sure to be an awesome date night in support of our amazing Conservatory Programs.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
