Honoring the wonderful accomplishments of our Fall Sports Student Athletes

It was a very special evening on Wednesday night as we honored the wonderful accomplishments of our Fall Sports Student-Athletes. It was our first full banquet together since February of 2020, and after the exploits of our cross country, golf, tennis, and volleyball teams, there was much to be celebrated. 300+ members of our community came together for a delicious dinner provided by Porta Via and our wonderful Booster Club and then we honored our athletes with many awards. The team awards are listed here, but in addition to those special awards the list of highlights for the Fall season is lengthy:
  • Cecilia Kvochak '23 was a 1st team all-league selection in Cross Country and placed 19th overall in her race at the CIF Prelims, leading the Cubs to a 4th place finish in the Prep League, while the JV team placed 3rd at league behind top-10 finishes Bella Villavicencio '25 and Eva Gullon '23.
  • Golf defeated FSHA in their season highlight and were led by Amy Baum '22 and Kate Thompson '22 who played exceptional golf at the Prep League Finals tournament in October.
  • Tennis won their first Prep League Championship since 2017 and advanced to the CIF Semifinals for the 1st time since 1988. Samantha Frick '23 won her second consecutive league singles title and will represent Mayfield at the CIF tournament this Monday. JV finished 2nd in league and 9-3 overall with a terrific season of improvement.
  • Volleyball won their first Prep League Championship since 2018 and advanced to the CIF Semifinals (first time since 2013) and the Regional Finals in the State tournament for the first time ever. The team was led by Prep League MVP Annelise Rising '23, and all league selections Maddie Kaufman "22 (1st team), Kayla Bandow '24 (2nd team), Holly Hillman '24 (2nd team), and Audrey Nuckols '25 (2nd team). The JV team also won a league championship finishing 19-4 overall, and the Frosh/Soph team placed 2nd in league with a 17-6 record.
  • Back on Nov. 7 the Equestrian team competed in their 1st IEL show of the year. The Cubs had a number of terrific performances on the day and many Cubs were competing in their first show ever. The Cubs were led by Helena Horton '22 who placed 5th in the Varsity Jumper competition and Emma Gordo '25 who placed 4th in the Freshman Hunters and was the Freshman Equestrian Champion. The Equestrian team will be back in action at Hansen Dam on Dec. 12.

Our winter sports teams began their seasons this week and have many non-league games coming up on campus and in the area. Make sure to check out our schedule on the Mayfield Athletics website and come out to a game...if the winter season is anything like the fall, you won't want to miss it....GO CUBS
