Head's Weekly Message — Nov. 12 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

I’ve just spent the two most wonderful and inspiring days with our beloved Class of 2022 on retreat. My heart has been literally full to overflowing with hope and optimism as I have seen and heard our Seniors put into words and action their deep and abiding faith infused with the spirit of Cornelia Connelly’s incarnational theology. It is so clear to me that these amazing students have experienced in their cores the power of God’s sustaining love. I know, beyond a doubt, that in a few short months, as Holy Child alums, these young women will be sharing their faith, compassion and confidence with the world—a precious gift of love.

What an amazing gift we were given last weekend by the extraordinary cast and crew of “Clue.” So hilarious and well-acted—I was very impressed by the professionalism of the entire production. The set, the lighting, the sound—everything was so tight. I want to thank everyone involved, especially Maryanne Householder, for putting on such an excellent and entertaining show. Now, I’m very much looking forward to the spring musical!

Our fabulous athletes have given us the best gift too this season, competing with such grit and determination, and our incredible volleyball Cubs continue to give us the gift that keeps on giving as they keep on winning—including last night against the Francis Parker School in San Diego, earning our team a place in the Regional State Semifinals! We play at home tomorrow night ranked #6 against the #10 team, El Camino Real. Now we need everyone to come out to the Sr. Mary Wilfrid Gym at 6 p.m. tomorrow and make a lot of noise—Go Cubs!

I am also looking forward to honoring our athletes at our sports Fall Sports Banquet this Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. Today is the deadline to RSVP—we have so much to celebrate.

As the fall sports season winds down, the second trimester of our Conservatory program begins. If your daughter is not playing a winter sport, you might want to talk with her about joining a conservatory. With a wide range of options, this after-school, for-credit program provides expert instruction and a supportive creative outlet for our artists. Please contact Maryanne Householder with questions.

Finally, I hope you and your families were able to take some time yesterday to reflect upon the powerful sacrifice of our veterans. I know you join me in holding these generous women and men in the Light as we pray in thanksgiving for their service.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
