Head's Weekly Message — Nov. 5, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

I hope you and your families enjoyed a wonderful Halloween weekend and that our students benefitted from their Monday off. Our Friday night celebration of Mayfield fathers and daughters was so much fun. Beautiful weather contributed to a fabulous evening with games, dancing and great food—such a wonderful Mayfield tradition.

We came back to school on Tuesday honoring the Feast of All Souls. Partnering with Latinas Unidas, our Campus Ministry Council planned a beautiful liturgy celebrated by Fr. Marcos Gonzalez, Pastor of St. Andrew Church. After Mass, Fr. Gonzalez told me how impressed he was with our students—their lovely singing, their prayerful participation and their respectful attention. I could not have been more proud!

Today administrators will complete the proofreading process for first-quarter grades and comments. These will be posted tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 6), so please read Toi Treister’s instructions on how to access them in today's newsletter. An email reminder with those same instructions will be sent to you as well. Please take some time over the weekend to review the teachers’ comments with your daughter to help her develop goals for the next few months. Remember and remind her—this is just a snapshot of her progress so far this year. These grades do not go on her transcript, and there is plenty of time to make adjustments.

Before you talk with your daughters you might want to take a look at this short TED talk video with Carol Dweck speaking about the meaning and value of having a growth mindset and the power of “yet.” These concepts are embedded in our Formation of Self curriculum for all grades and are so important to reinforce whenever possible.

This weekend I’m so looking forward to Saturday night, when my husband and I have planned the perfect date night—dinner and a play—our Mayfield Senior School amazing production of “Clue”! With performances tonight and tomorrow night at 7:00 and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.—this is must-see theater.

I remind everyone that the school is closed in honor of Veteran’s Day, this upcoming Thursday Nov. 11. And I am also very much looking forward to spending three days with our extraordinary seniors on retreat next week, Wednesday, Nov. 10 to Friday, Nov. 12. The Class of 2022 has impressed me since their first days on campus. I remember vividly how moved I was participating with them on their freshman retreat three years ago—these young women have just continued to grow in amazing ways—blessings beyond measure.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
