Head's Weekly Message — Oct. 15, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

I write to you a little jet lagged after travelling east yesterday to attend the celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in Philadelphia this Sunday.  We owe such an extraordinary debt of gratitude to our beloved founder, the Venerable Cornelia Connelly, and all the many Sisters who have joined her Society throughout the years to carry on her legacy of love. Last Monday, we had the great blessing to hear from Sr. Eileen McDevitt, SHCJ, Director of the Network of Holy Child Schools, through our Inspire adult spirituality program, and she spoke about the beautiful incarnational spirituality that forms the foundation of the Holy Child charism. There are more uplifting speakers from Inspire on the horizon, and if you are interested in participating in the program, consider signing up for those sessions.

This special charism inspired Cornelia’s educational vision and the Holy Child mission—“To rejoice in God’s presence and to help people believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world”—with the firm belief that God is always with us, and in us, and works through us with a powerful force of love. We are never abandoned, we are never alone, we are always cherished.

I see this charism come to life every day at Mayfield both inside and outside the classroom. On Wednesday, I especially loved experiencing our ninth-graders enjoy a wonderful day of bonding, team building and fun. Through laughter and games, new friendships were forged and leaders emerged. I can tell that the Class of 2025 has a special generosity of spirit that will continue to enrich us for the next four years. How fun it will be to watch them grow!

It was also thrilling to watch our amazing volleyball Cubs play their hearts out against FSHA in support of breast cancer research and awareness! Congratulations to our athletes on their impressive victories for such a great cause. Go Cubs!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
