Halfway through the Fall Sports season and the volleyball and Varsity tennis teams are on fire!

We are about halfway done with the Fall Sports season and at this point, still no one has beaten our Varsity tennis team! The Cubs won their biggest and most thrilling match of the year yesterday over two-time defending league champion Westridge. Samantha Frick ‘23—our Athlete of the Week—continued her dominance in singles play, winning all three of her matches and she was joined by Sheryl Cheng ‘23, who went 3-0 as well. The biggest win of the day came from Cubs #3 singles Rebecca Leiva ‘22, who trailed 1-3 in her match against Westridge's #1 player. Rebecca stormed back to win the match 6-4, giving the Cubs a huge lift and when Michelle Cheng ‘22 and Anna Kingston ‘24 won their doubles match 6-4, the Cubs clinched the victory 10-8, over the Tigers. Mayfield is now 8-0 overall and 1-0 in league play. There is still a lot of tennis to be played, but the #10 ranked Cubs are clearly the team to beat in the league this season.

The volleyball teams continued their stellar season as well. The Cubs stepped out of league play to travel to a talented South Pasadena team on Monday. The Cubs played well and gave the Tigers all they could handle, but came up short. Wednesday saw the Cubs return to Prep League play on the road at Westridge and it was another dominating performance from Mayfield. The Cubs swept all three matches and all three teams now sit in 1st place with 7-1 records in league. Varsity moved up three more spots and now sits at #7 in the lastest CIF rankings.

The Cubs golf team continues to have some growing pains, dropping both of their matches this week to Buckley and Providence. The young Cubs are playing well but have a number of beginners playing some important matches. The team is improving with each match and looks to get its first league win next week.

Cross country did not have any races this week, but the team is still training hard and getting ready for their race next Saturday in Huntington Beach. Next week will be highlighted by the Varsity volleyball team heading to Arizona to compete against some of the best teams in the country in the Nike Tournament of Champions. You will be able to follow along with all of the results on @msscubs remember love when you join us at our local games and matches.

Go Cubs!
