Head's Weekly Message — Sept. 3, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

We are enjoying an amazing first week of school. Everyone is just so thrilled to be back all together—reconnecting with friends and teachers—we can all feel the excitement!

I was particularly excited on Monday to welcome everybody to our new school year and to see all our students, faculty, and staff together in the gym for the first time in almost 18 months. Our ASB leaders did a wonderful job setting the tone as they introduced this year’s theme—Harry Potter—with a fun video. Each class has been assigned to one of the four “Hogfield” houses, and I’m looking forward to some friendly and fun “magical” competitions throughout the year.

I was also thrilled to participate in the blessing and ribbon cutting of our new Senior Lounge.  The Class of 2022 has already put down roots in their sunny new space complete with cute and comfortable furniture. I know this beautiful room will be a place where memories will be made for this and many future senior classes—a place to build community, grow friendships, and have fun!

I’m particularly excited to show off our new spaces to parents next Friday, September 10 at our class Parent Socials. These parties will all be held on campus with staggered start times—the Freshman/Sophomore from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Junior/Senior from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please come to meet and connect with fellow parents and experience our amazing renovation for yourselves.

While we celebrate the start of the school year with energy and joy—we are, of course—always mindful of the continued challenges presented by the pandemic. As you have been made aware we have had two separate confirmed cases on campus. So far, we have no evidence that there has been any transmission at school, but we must all stay vigilant. We are following all Health Department guidelines and our community is doing a great job wearing well-fitted masks at all times while indoors. We are extremely fortunate that as of today 96% of our faculty and staff and 85% of our student body are fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is the most important element to keep our community safe and our students in school—students who are fully vaccinated are not required to quarantine, even if they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

For students who must quarantine or isolate due to the virus, I want everyone to rest assured that we have plans in place to keep them connected and engaged with their classes through Zoom so that they do not fall behind. Please do not hesitate to connect us with questions or concerns.

Thanks, as always, for your continued support and prayers. I hope you have a wonderful long Labor Day weekend.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
