Head's Weekly Message — May 28, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,
It is hard to believe that we have reached the amazing finish to a school year like no other!  It has been a marathon—but one filled with both growth and grace. I am so proud of our entire community and so thankful for all your support. Because of you, our students have not just survived but thrived. I am particularly grateful for our extraordinary faculty and staff who worked with such creativity, dedication, and love to keep our students engaged and moving forward despite all odds. It’s been challenging but so worth it—our community is stronger and more united than ever, and I am filled with hope!
What a joy it has been finally to be able to celebrate some of our beautiful and cherished traditions with our students. Thanks to the Herculean efforts of Abby Shaw and Katie Waferling (along with the beautiful flower arrangement by our own Toi Treister '82) last Saturday’s Senior Prom was fabulous. Our Seniors looked gorgeous and had so much fun dancing under the stars in their magically transformed senior parking lot. Great food, wonderful music, the best company—I don’t think our girls missed the boys too much! (Stay tuned for photos—we'll share the image gallery with you next week!)
This week we’ve also been able to celebrate our superb arts program. Please make sure to take a look at our online Primavera Arts Festival, which includes such beautiful and varied examples of your daughters’ talents. Please also take a listen to this excerpt of Wednesday’s astoundingly wonderful vocal concert. It’s almost unbelievable that our singers were able to make such extraordinary music after so much time apart. What a joy it was to hear and see them together again!
And what a joy it was to honor our Seniors and their moms at our annual tea party—this year held at Annandale Golf Club. Everyone looked so lovely as we enjoyed the most beautiful weather and such delicious food. (Coming soon—a gallery of stunning mother daughter photos to enjoy!)
The festivities for all our students will continue with each class enjoying their own awards ceremony, lunch, and yearbook signing party from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. next week. We look forward to seeing the seniors on Tuesday, juniors on Wednesday, sophomores on Thursday, and finally our freshmen on Friday. Students do not have to wear their uniforms, but should dress appropriately for the occasion.
I also look forward to spending some great quality time with my beloved Class of 2021 as they practice and prepare for Baccalaureate and Graduation next week. Please make sure to reference our graduation webpage for all the details, including the YouTube link for the commencement ceremony livestream.
While this is the last “This Week” for now—please check your email over the summer for updates and information as we continue to plan for the 2021-22 school year. Please also check out our Strub Hall Renovation webpage for all the latest news. We will be keeping you informed about any new health department requirements as they become available—our campus received high marks during a recent visit by Dr. Goh and her team.  We continue to encourage you to consider having your daughters vaccinated. Our clinic last Saturday held at Mayfield Junior School was a great success. Please click here for information on additional vaccination resources, including opportunities to schedule Pfizer vaccines for anyone over the age of 12.
Finally—it is with much love and gratitude that I let you know that our amazing theology faculty member, Frank Karl, will be cutting back his teaching responsibilities next year. For 20 years, Frank has been a transformational teacher and mentor for countless Mayfield Senior School students. We are blessed that Frank will continue to teach his philosophy class as well as lead our music ministry program. He is a Mayfield treasure!
I wish you all a safe, restful, and fun summer. Congratulations to the Class of 2021. Their leadership and determination have inspired me every day. They will always have a very special place in my heart.
With Love and Gratitude,
Kate Morin
