Head's Weekly Message — May 21, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

What a joy it has been this week to see so many more of our students on campus!  Our teachers are just loving being able to actually teach your daughters in person. I really encourage all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders who have not been back to campus to consider taking advantage of the opportunity for us all to be together during our last week of classes. I admit we are having to put up with some bursts of construction noise as we make great progress on the first and most extensive phase of the Strub Hall renovation project—but school is much more fun in person!

It was great to see our newest Cubs all together last Tuesday as we welcomed the Mayfield Senior School Class of 2025 to campus for the first time as a group. Our student leaders planned some great activities and I know the girls just really enjoyed spending some time together getting to know their new Mayfield home.

As we are starting to get to know our youngest students, we continue to take every chance to honor and celebrate our Seniors. Yesterday evening we all loved the Senior Movie Night on the North Lawn. The girls so enjoyed each other’s company while watching “Twilight” and eating popcorn and candy in the dark. This morning we were all up early for our Senior Sunrise Breakfast, again on the North Lawn, this time snacking on early morning treats while we watched the sun rise, and culminating with Lucky Boy breakfast burritos—yum!

Tomorrow evening is going to be so much fun too, as we host our very special Senior Prom. I’m really looking forward to seeing our girls all dressed up. We have planned a very special party for our beloved Class of 2021—food, music, decorations, photos and togetherness, all outside on campus, following all health protocols to keep everyone safe. It’s going to be absolutely beautiful!

To start your weekend off, I cordially invite you to tune in this evening at 7:00 p.m. to our annual spring Primavera Arts Festival (passcode: Primavera). Despite all the challenges of the pandemic, our students have continued to display their extraordinary creativity and talent through their art. I guarantee you will be inspired and delighted! Next Tuesday, May 25, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the amazing vocal talents of our students. Please scroll down for more information about the upcoming Senior Farewell Concert, which will live streamed on Zoom from our beautiful campus.

Finally, I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for their transformational generosity during our annual “Be Our Heroes” giving day. Thanks to you, we raised over $114,000 in one day—surpassing our goal—all in support of our beloved students. Thank you!

With Love and Gratitude,
Kate Morin

P.S. I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow for our vaccination clinic at Mayfield Junior School. I’ve made eight dozen chocolate cupcakes as a little sweet treat to show my gratitude. Thank you for helping to keep our community safe!
