Head's Weekly Message — April 9, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

We made it! Words cannot express the joy and gratitude I felt yesterday as I was finally able to welcome our beloved students back to campus. Everyone was just so happy to be back together, drop-off and pick-up ran smoothly, all the technology worked as planned, lunch alfresco was filled with laughter and fun—it was an amazing day! Now, I’m looking forward to lots of equally amazing days to finish off the school year.

In order to make that happen—we really need your help. As you know we have worked extremely hard to make sure that our students, faculty, and staff are as safe as possible while they are on campus. We are carefully monitoring mask wearing, distancing, and hand hygiene to make sure that everyone follows the protocols that have been proven to be effective against transmission of the virus. However, one of the most important parts is up to you—and that is the accurate completion of the Magnus health screening, which we check every day. Please keep your daughters home if they have any COVID-19 symptoms or are not feeling well. Please also follow the state-mandated quarantine requirements after travel, and prevent your daughter from attending parties or gatherings where distancing and mask wearing are not enforced. We really want to be able to keep our campus open from now on—with everyone’s vigilance and support, I know we can do it!

My confidence is so great because of your amazing cooperation in getting your daughters tested at such short notice. This mandate from the Pasadena Health Department came to me on Monday evening and it was very unexpected. The great news is that all tests have come back negative so far! Another piece of great news is that the travel quarantine guidelines have just been changed to include a testing option. Travelers who have not yet been fully vaccinated can now end their quarantine period after seven days if they get a negative COVID-19 test taken from three to five days after they return to California.

As we move into this new phase of hybrid learning, I want to encourage you to tune into a special parent talk on Tuesday, April 13 at 6:00 p.m. called “Transitioning to a New Normal: helping your students return to remote and in-person learning,” presented by Insight Treatment, a local mental health center focused on restoring and improving the wellness of teens and their families. We will send out a reminder with the link on Monday.

Finally, I am very excited to see many of you at our Mission-Driven Benefit next Saturday, April 17, and because it’s our first hybrid event, you can join us at the Petersen Automotive Museum or log in virtually. Get your tickets soon because the RSVP deadline is midnight on Wednesday, April 14. 100% of the proceeds will be going to our Holy Child Scholarship fund—a great night for a great cause. So looking forward to it!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
