Head's Weekly Message — March 26, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

As we begin our Church’s holiest week, my heart is filled with gratitude and joy. It was such a blessing to be able to worship with our juniors and their parents last Friday at our beautiful Junior Ring Ceremony and Liturgy. I continue to be so incredibly impressed by the resilience of our students as witnessed through the Junior Retreat last week and the first day of our Senior Retreat yesterday. It is clear from all that I heard from them that despite the challenges, sadness, disappointment and loss they have also found many moments of grace, beauty and growth during this last difficult year. It has been incredibly inspiring to hear our students reflect upon and share these experiences. They are amazing.

As the virus case numbers continue to decline and the vaccination rates continue to climb in our area, we are so excited to be putting the finishing touches on preparations for our hybrid return to campus. Our students have been divided into two groups to attend in-person classes on either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday, We are maintaining “Wellness Wednesday” as a remote day for all. The groups have been balanced very carefully, so changes cannot be made easily at this time. In order for students to return to in-person learning, parents are required to sign a COVID-19 liability release agreement. Please be on the lookout for an iMSS email notification later today with instructions on how to log in and submit this online form for each of your daughters before March 31.

After a great deal of discussion, research, and consultation we have decided to include the opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to participate in weekly voluntary PCR surveillance testing on campus. More information will be sent next week. We feel that testing will add an additional layer of mitigation and prevention. We also feel it is important to have this in place just in the event that case numbers begin to rise again.

Finally—Third Quarter grade reports will be posted tomorrow morning. These grades provide a snapshot of your daughter’s progress so far this semester, and they will not appear on her transcript. Please take the opportunity over the next week to discuss the grades with your daughter and perhaps help her set some goals for the remainder of the school year.

I wish you all a safe, healthy, and rejuvenating Easter Break and a very blessed Holy Week. I can’t wait to see our beloved students back on campus when we return.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
