Head's Weekly Message — March 12, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

It certainly has been an exciting week! Our beautiful senior mother-daughter luncheon at Annandale Golf Club on Wednesday filled my heart with joy. And then—not to be missed—the Cubs Cabaret*, which premiered yesterday, showcases the amazing talents of our incredible students. Please don’t miss this opportunity to be wonderfully entertained!

Also, with the greatest excitement, we continue to prepare for the reopening of our campus for in-person instruction. It looks almost certain that Los Angeles County will finally make it into the Red Tier next Tuesday, March 16. These next two weeks leading up to Easter vacation are going to be very busy as we get everyone and everything ready.

This past Wednesday, we invited our 9th- and 11th-graders on campus to start their training on all the protocols we have put into place to keep everyone safe and healthy. Next Wednesday, March 17 (Happy St. Patrick’s Day!) our 10th- and 12th-graders will participate in a similar program.

On Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March 19 we are so looking forward to hosting our juniors on campus for their annual retreat. This will culminate on Friday evening with the Junior Ring Ceremony and liturgy. What a joy it will be to be able to worship together!

Monday, March 22 is a faculty workday for teachers to complete their third-quarter grades and comments—so no classes. The following day, Tuesday, March 23, will be a regular remote instructional day for everyone with teachers having the opportunity to practice with our hybrid technology from campus.

On Wednesday, March 24—while others are enjoying their “Wellness Wednesday,” we will be hosting the SATs on campus for our juniors.

Finally, on Thursday, March 25 and Friday, March 26 our seniors will be participating in their own retreat. I feel so blessed to be able to serve as a faculty companion and have this time with my beloved Class of 2021.

After a well-deserved Easter vacation, we will have one last day of fully remote instruction on Tuesday, April 6, allowing our faculty a final dress rehearsal to prepare for our first day of hybrid school—Thursday, April 8!

At this point in our planning process, it would be extremely helpful for you to let us know if your daughter plans to continue to participate remotely or if she will be attending classes on campus.  To help in your decision-making, please review this document [PDF], which spells out all the measures that we are taking to keep everyone safe. Then, please complete this survey to let us know your thinking at this time. We understand that you might want to change your mind—just let us know.

Finally, we are hosting a Town Hall Zoom meeting next Thursday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. to address your questions. In the meantime, I continue to pray for our entire community as we move forward. I ask that you also keep my family in your prayers as we welcomed our new grandson on March 9. Heath Joseph Morin weighed in at 7 lbs 3 oz—a blessing beyond measure.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
