Head's Weekly Message — Feb. 12, 2021

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

It was so incredibly wonderful to spend time with our Seniors on Wednesday, as each girl had her picture professionally taken, so we can create a “COVID” version of their iconic yearbook class gate photo. Just being with them—even for a short period of time—really raised my spirits.  With the virus case numbers continuing to decline, I’m also becoming much more hopeful. We continue to refine our preparations for a return to in-person instruction, as we urge our state and local officials to support these efforts. In the meantime, we are looking forward to getting the girls back on campus for worship and other activities.

I’m particularly looking forward to this coming Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 16 at 4:30 p.m. when— at long last—we will be celebrating our amazing Class of 2021 with their Ring Ceremony! Spread out on the North Lawn following all health and safety protocols, I know it is going to be a beautiful service filled with love and hope.

The following day I will be so very happy to see our Sophomores and Juniors on campus for their Ash Wednesday prayer service. The 10th-graders should arrive between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. and they will be dismissed at 10:00 a.m. The 11th-graders should arrive between 10:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with their dismissal is at 11:45 a.m. Please complete your daughter’s COVID-19 screening through the Magnus app by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday and send a screenshot of the results to her phone. Please note that 9th- and 12th-graders will participate remotely during advisory, and there will be a remote option for 10th- and 11th-graders, too. Students must RSVP today to let us know whether they will be attending in person or online.

I know it is only February, but now is the time to start planning for summer studies. As in the past, Mayfield will offer a robust program of full-credit classes including Geometry (with departmental approval), Chemistry, Biology and U.S. History. This summer we will also be offering half-credit classes in Women’s History, Psychology and Fitness. Course registration opens at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, but you can create your summer studies registration account starting tomorrow, Feb. 13. Scroll down for a course listing and be on the lookout for more details and a registration reminder over the next couple of weeks.

Finally, today you will receive an email to re-enroll your daughter for the 2021-22 school year. Re-enrollment contracts and a $1,000 deposit are due by March 1, 2021. We realize this has been a difficult year with your daughters missing many activities we had planned on campus, so we have decided to refund the activity fee collected as part of your tuition for this year. You will be given a credit on your account of $275 that you may use for next year's tuition. For seniors, it will be deducted from your last month's tuition payment for this year, or refunded if you have already paid tuition in full.

I hope you have a very sweet Valentine’s Day and take some time for a restful President’s Day long weekend!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
