Head's Weekly Message — March 20, 2020

Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,

As we end our first week away from school, I want to let you know how extremely proud I am of your daughters. From what I’ve heard and seen, they have engaged in their remote learning with focus and determination. Our teachers, too, are doing an amazing job. I think one reason why this is working so well is that the bonds between us all are so well established and so strong, having been forged over months in our loving community. These bonds can’t be broken, and I believe they will endure and become even stronger during these challenging times.

With the “Safer at Home” rules issued last night by Los Angeles County, it has become clear that remote learning will continue through at least April 19. I know this news is going to be very disappointing for many of our students, especially our seniors, who have been looking forward to the many traditions, events, and activities that mark the culmination of their high school experience. We will do everything in our power to reschedule as much as we can—including Prom—once the “Safer at Home” rules are lifted. I’m sure this is going to take some real creativity and flexibility, but where there’s a will there’s a way—and we certainly have the will!

In the meantime, I know you will join me in helping our students make the most of each day, one day at a time. Knowing that remote learning will continue for at least three weeks after Spring Break, we are going to use what we have learned this week to determine the best daily schedule for our students. I will be back in touch early next week to let everyone know what has been decided. Thank you so much for your patience as we figure this all out.

As we continue to communicate through email, we are sensitive to the fact that your inboxes are probably overflowing. Please know that we are setting up a resource page on iMSS with copies of everything, so you won’t need to search for information. Third quarter grades and comments will be posted tomorrow morning. Please find instructions below, and also on our resource page.

Finally—as always—please know that you continue in my prayers. Please also do not hesitate to be in touch. We are here for you and each other—together we will make it through.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
