Head's Weekly Message — Nov. 22, 2019
Dear Mayfield Senior School Parents,
With the touch of chill in the air and a few leaves on the ground (who says California doesn’t have seasons?) I think we are all starting to get into that wonderful holiday spirit. Yesterday your daughters did that in a big way at our Winter Sports Pep Rally—the Battle of the Holidays! Our amazing Athletic Leadership Council hosted the most fun and deafening competition between Thanksgiving (9th and 11th graders) and Christmas (10th and 12th graders). Although Christmas prevailed in a tight contest, everyone had a great time. GO CUBS!
This morning I am really looking forward to the opportunity for us to prepare our hearts for the holidays in a different way as we participate in an interfaith prayer service planned by our Campus Ministry Council. Our students have invited a priest, a rabbi, and an imam to help us celebrate the richness and diversity of our faith journeys as we give thanks for our many blessings. What a beautiful way for us to end our week.
This is the time of year when I try to take some time to count my blessings. I am so thankful for my family, friends, and especially my Mayfield community. Our school is a place of such joy and growth for me as I continue to learn so much from our students and our amazing faculty and staff. Thank you for entrusting your precious daughters with us—they are such a gift of light and hope!
We will experience a wonderful blessing on Monday when we welcome our 9th- and 12th-grade grandparents and special friends to Mayfield. Our guests will have the opportunity to experience our beautiful campus, enjoy some dance and musical performances, and hear about some of the many things that make Mayfield so special. Also on Monday, our 11th graders will be leaving for their overnight class retreat. Please keep our juniors and their facilitators in your prayers. Junior parents—we need your help to drop off your daughters at school on Monday, as we are not able to accommodate their cars on campus because of Grandparents’ Day.
All parents—we need your help in making sure the roads around our school are safe, especially for pedestrians and cyclists. Yesterday the Pasadena Police Department received a complaint from a Bellefontaine neighbor that a Mayfield parent was driving in a way that almost caused an accident. Please be mindful of everyone’s safety.
Finally, today at 3:30 p.m. we will be testing our emergency alert system. You should receive three simultaneous communications through text, phone, and email. If you do not receive these messages please email Angelica Sanchez at so that we can update your contact information.
