This week’s calendar has been dominated by our Varsity tennis team, led by last week’s Athlete of the Week, Samantha Frick '23, and our doubles teams, who have gone 16-2 in the two days of matches. On Tuesday the Cubs defeated St. Lucy's (11-7) in a CIF wildcard match and then traveled to Lakewood the next day to defeat Mayfair (10-8) in the first round. The Cubs could advance to the CIF quarterfinals with a win over Notre Dame this afternoon at the Arcadia Tennis Center, so please come out to support your Cubs at their home courts! Games start at 2:00 p.m.
Last weekend, the cross country team hosted the 2019 Prep League Finals at Pierce College and showed that not only are they the best team in the league this year, but plan to be for a long time. The Cubs Varsity team, ranked #9 in the state, won the Prep League title with only 22 points, ahead of second-place Chadwick (56) and third-place Poly (77). The Cubs placed five runners in the top eight (1st: Audrey Suarez ’21, 2nd: Emma Cadena ’20, 4th: Maggie Kiechler ’20, 7th: Cecilia Kvochak ’23, 8th: Cameron Gomez ’20). Mercedes Javelera ’22 won the JV race, followed closely by Natalie Miera ’23 in second, but the team could not hold off a strong Flintridge Prep squad and finished second in the JV race with 35 points, just behind Prep's 31. Varsity takes tomorrow off before they competing in next Saturday's CIF Prelims.
Our equestrian team represented Mayfield in their first IEL competition of the year on Oct. 27 with fantastic results. The Cubs were led by Helena Horton '22, who was the overall Varsity Jumpers Champion! Hannah Attar '21 placed sixth overall in the Varsity competition, and Eliza Jacobs '21 was overall champion in the Freshman Jumper class. Congratulations to all nine Cubs riders! This year-round team competes next on Jan. 12.
We hope to see you at the ATC this afternoon to cheer on the Cubs tennis team. You can always follow along on
